This is a fantastic restaurant that truly captures the history of the area. They offer complimentary nuts, which is a nice touch. The beer is served ice-cold, and Shirley really appreciates local businesses. Plus, visiting the nearby railway museum adds an enjoyable ride through the beautiful landscape.
Take your time to make the trip. What is better than a museum selling cheap cold beer and spinning. Thank you later. Check the operating hours.
Shirley's open again. It's something out of the way, but it's worth it. Shirley's Tavern has a lot of character and the main character is Shirley himself, who tells a lot of fascinating stories about life in this hidden corner of Central California, where she lived about 70 of these 94 years. Many historical memories of the walls, beer is cheap, peanuts are free, and they have pop and chips and water for no one who is not old enough for beer. I visited today, had a $4 bottle of Fat Tire, visited Shirley for a while, and then bought a can of pop for a $1 for the street. She is happy to be open again after having closed for 22 months, and she hopes that her regulars will find their way again. Open Wed Sun, 11:00 a.m.
I dropped by today and enjoyed a $4 bottle of Fat Tire while chatting with Shirley for a bit. I also picked up a can of soda for $1 to take with me. Shirley is thrilled to be open again after being closed for 22 months, and she hopes that her loyal customers will return. The tavern is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 AM to 5 PM.
