This is the place! I would think that the oxymoron of a Poe theme bar in a coastal city would not be hit, but this place has it down. You have a great...
Had heard of this place before so decided in the area to go for lunch, parking was ok. Hamburger was good, but what about the Fritten, is it...
Great atmosphere and very busy but very fast and kind staff. Always a good sign when a restaurant is packed I have found. Not a big menu selection but we'll known for their burgers. I got the burger with cheese and bacon with slaw (which was very good). My son ordered the grilled chicken and fries and my husband had the burger with Swiss. Fast service and great people. Can't wait to visit again.
We had eaten at Poe’s on a previous visit to Charleston and it was OK, we enjoyed it. We went again while visiting Charleston this year (Feb. 2023) and were disappointed. The service was lackluster and unprofessional. Our waiter arrived pretty quickly, but his clothing was filthy. He seemed incapable of engaging in the most basic customer interaction. He didn’t welcome us to Poe’s, he just asked if he could get us some drinks. I asked what beers were on tap and he dug through his pockets until he discovered the correct dirty scrap of paper with a list of beers on it and handed it to me. He was quick with the drinks and took our order for an appetizer and two sandwiches. The food runner who brought our sandwiches was polite and pleasant, but we hadn’t received our appetizer. When we mentioned that, he was embarrassed and apologized and we asked him to have it removed from the check. We had taken a couple of bites from our sandwiches when our waiter shuffled by and asked how everything was, but he didn’t wait long enough to hear our answer. When we were nearly finished with our meal our cancelled appetizer appeared. The sandwiches were disappointing. We probably shouldn’t have ordered chicken sandwiches, they were tough. Poe’s was not busy, service should not have been as shabby as it was. If our experience would have been better, we would have lingered longer and had another drink. The sub-par service and attitude of our waiter left me with the impression that, because Poe’s is so popular with visitors to Sullivan’s Island, maybe they aren’t really concerned with repeat business. If you want a good burger, with better service, I recommend Five Guys in Mount Pleasant.
