Porteño - Surry Hills

I found this restaurant online and it had rave reviews. We were seated at the bar and I’d recommend it. It gives you a cool perspective of the restaurant. The steak is excellent. Here, you’re able to share portions, so I’d suggest getting several dishes...to share.

The food here is ok, but skip all the appetisers because the rest of it is so heavy it 's all you need. Tasty, but heavy. Anyway, aside from the slow and inattentive service, for me the biggest problem was the noise. I simply don 't enjoy...being in a a small room full of people shouting at each other (shouting because they can 't hear because of, you know, people shouting at each other). Such things are optional these days. Restaurateurs understand that if you insert people into a cube with six hard echoey sides, the sound will reverberate and magnify. Smart restaurant owners put sound deadening on the ceiling or use other fittings to ameliorate things. But some owners think being unable to hear your dining companions makes a place buzzy . Also, be aware that if you 're there for lunch, some items on the menu are not available to you. Not labelled as such until you ask for them. Just not available for lunch. Anyway, the food is good. Take earplugs. And a book.

We decided to go to dinner and the night did not start very well with the waiter who served us (pink dreadlocks) since he was rude to suggest passing the side dishes for the main course, we finally decided to start with the dish of...ROASTED TUETANO that was really good and tasty, GRILLED OCTOPUS; Disappointing, past cooking and warm when arriving at the table, then waiting for the main dish the side dishes ARROZ AJO and BERENJENAS CON MORRONES arrive before the main course which was a BIFE DE BISTRO that together with the bone marrow would have been the only thing to stand out at night. To finish the same waiter in a dismissive attitude served the last drinks of sparkling water at 11 dollars each bottle. In the end a 200 bill; A night to forget and an experience not to repeat. A shame

Had a fabulous evening with friends at this restaurant. The staff were so welcoming and helpful, the restaurant is beautiful, the wine selection fantastic and the food was wonderful. We enjoyed The octopus, chorizo, bistecca and some specials in a red emperor and a chicken...dish. We also loved the dessert which was a mango dish. Will definitely return to this restaurant when we next visit Sydney and next time we’ll try to be quieter!

Went for my birthday with my girlfriend and brother. They have very good steak, blood sausage, great service and ambience. Exactly what I needed for. Gracias Amigos!!
