We were a party of 14 and half of our booking received food after 40 mins and then another wait of 10 minutes for the rest of the food to arrive. Not a good experience for a special farewell.
I had read Concrete Playground's review of the 'new' Edinburgh Hotel with a revamped menu and refurbished dining area and was genuinely excited to be sampling something 'new' in the world of Sydney CBD pubworld. Back in the day, the food was average and service very slow at the Edinburgh. Mentioning my excitement to my work colleagues, our team lunch was designated to be the tester of the new Edinburgh Castle. I had booked at least 2 weeks in advance, mentioned that it was a work lunch for 1 hour, and as there was going to be 7-9 of us for lunch, i asked on pre-ordering our lunch. I was advised that an email would be sent with the option to pre-order. No email later, I called a few days out and again asked on pre-ordering (it is the festive period after all). I was advised that as the booking was at 12.30pm, pre-ordering was not necessary as the kitchen did not get busy until at least 1.15pm/1.30pm. Foolishly , i believed this advice. Being there promptly at 12.30pm with 7 of us in total, we lined up at the bar and ordered away. It seems old habits die hard for service at this pub. Fifty minutes later, our lunch arrives. Or should i say 3 out of 7 meals arrive, leaving the remaining 4 to look on forlornly. Nary an explanation offered. Another 10 minutes later, the remaining 4 meals are dropped (again with zero acknowledgement of 'sorry' or even a mumble). Most of us (6/7 of us) had ordered a burger and chips, considering that that would be the quickest meal to order. The other plate was pate and toast. The chips were crispy and well cooked, but the chicken schnitzel, slaw and avocado burger was dry and dehydrated. With the average burger costing $17 here , and considering the dime a dozen number of pubs in the Sydney CBD, this place is just not cutting it for food or service wise for me to return anytime soon. Disappointing to say the least.

Oh wow this place was a bit of a surprise. I had been here before but thought nothing of it, however upstairs is a whole different story! It was pretty quiet for a Friday but we were just after some cocktails, which led us upstairs because that’s where they make them. A very fun space with nice décor throughout, totally different vibe to downstairs. They also have a closed off smoking room which had pretty lights and was packed full. Definitely don’t mind going back now, knowing what they have on offer.
Had dinner there tonight. Good steak well cooked to my liking at med rare. Good service all round for pub food well done. The price was ok to Like the chips and good crisp green.beans.
