Feedback gevenI used to go here about 30 years ago as a child with my parents. I went here yesterday with my wife and daughter. My wife was unsettled by the alleyway and immediate toilet on entrance. upstairs at the restaurant was exactly the same as 30 years ago - like i mean nothing changed and all looked pretty tired and grim. the pasta bolognaise was nice and plenty for a serve of $10. free bread and water/cordial refills. all the staff looked chinese bar one old gentleman in an apron so i thought that was weird. the pasta and sauce kept to the same recipe as i recalled 30 years ago so that was good. i didnt mind it for a quick bite to eat but for some reason my wife didnt like it. dont take someone there for a first date i dont think. cheap and tasty but dingy place. check it out and make your own mind up : )
Entrance off tiny alley with staircase up to 2nd floor. Looks pretty sketchy. Upstairs is as if you walked into someone's living room. Not having changed in over a decade may not be a good thing. With very, very little work to service and such could make it cozier. Instead it is $10 for spaghetti. Can't beat the deal. If you order schnitzel you just get schnitzel. Order the combo if you want spaghetti and schnitzel. Cordial sounds a tad eloquent for the vinegar bottle of tinged water on your table. When they say quick - no kidding the spaghetti is on your table as quick as the waiter can walk to and from the counter. No euphemisms. This place is very basic hole in the wall with very limited menu. Kids may not know the difference but adults surely will. Our bill for 2 kids 2 adults was $50. Do not expect anything over and above a table with utensils and food.
This is the place to go for a good hearty meal...our family had 3 spag bogs....1 serve of meat balls...and 1 serve of osso bucco...with free bread, a bit of lettuce and red cordial....everyone enjoyed their food and felt full...worth $54 for 5....but this is not the place to go if u want silver service...prestine decor and a big menu....as it is more like an old cafe with out of date decor and walls that have seen many people ... well worth the visit for some good food
Visited this little upstairs eatery. Disappointed in the quality of the food. Granted it was only $10.00 for the spaghetti, but when the food came out it was lukewarm. Pointed this out, food was returned to kitchen where kitchen staff jokingly discussed 'complaining customer returning food to kitchen'. Same food was eventually returned to table after being microwaved. Food went cold very quickly leaving red tomatoe sauce grease around edge of plate. Sauce was runny and lacked flavour. Bread might have been complimentary, but nothing to write home about; plain, white, pointless. Salad was mostly iceberg lettuce with under ripe tomatoes, sliced cucumber and sliced red onion scattered on top. Schnitzel in the mini combo was overcooked around the edges, dry and tasteless. Don't know where some of the reviewers for this site ate but it wasn't at this place and it wasn't this food. It is all well and good to have inexpensive food, but don't make it sound like it is something it clearly is not. Even if the food is inexpensive it should still have some flavour or body to the dish being served. Bland is not an acceptable food choice. Then again you can't expect too much if you are catering to the lowest common denominator. Would be prepared to go back and try the stew if only to compare between it and the pasta option. If the food lives up to the hype one can almost excuse the dingy decor, and while the waiter was apologetic regarding the food, too may other things let this place down, in particular entering from a lane way that has smelly toilets as the first thing that greets you.
Have been coming here for a long time and it is a must on each trip to Sydney. The food is good quality Italian, we shared pasta and liver and still couldn't finish the meal!...servings are generous and the food is delicious....forget the decor....This is a great place to eat for family and friends....Under $50 for 4 adults
