I was staying at the hotel and decided to grab a quick breakfast before heading to work. The service was slow and the eggs benedict were cold by the time they reached me. Despite being tasty, it was not completely satisfying. The prices are reasonable for what you get.
The kitchen could not really be called a restaurant, although the cuisine certainly merits that accolade. It 's in the lobby of the Menzies Hotel, right at street level, looking out on the busy bus commuter strip in Carrington Street, so the passing scene is always...fluid. The tables are small, but comfortable, and the dining room opens at 1730, happily in the middle of the 1700-1900 Happy Hour . We opted straight away for the Black Angus Sirloin Steak, with roasted potatoes, pumpkin carrots and peas, and served with a delightful jus that enhanced the overall dining experience. The meat was cooked EXACTLY to our respective orders, and was superb! And, at $34.00, good value for this level of quality in the CBD. The chardonnay we chose was also very reasonably priced at $5.00 per glass in this Happy Hour. There 's no escaping the fact that you 're in a lobby or a bar or a bit of both, so the ambience is lacking. People-watching, however, made it all the more worthwhile.
Being attached to The Menzies hotel I thought this was going to be a great experience. The manager was dressed in jeans so didn't give the best first impression, the rest of the meal was pretty average as well. The dessert was inedible and when...I gave the waitress the feedback she just giggled. It wasn't overly comfortable and gave you the churn and burn feeling not in for a long evening of indulgence. overall the service was ok, the food was passable and the saving grace was they are part of the Accor group so you can get a healthy discount if you have an Accor card. not a place I will be rushing back to.
We chose an breakfast in the hotel restaurant and were not disappointed. I had the bircher musesli and it was generously loaded with beautiful, fresh fruits. my wife had bened the iron and was also very happy. coffee was excellent. my wife likes her. the barista made a point to come to our table to make sure that she was satisfied with the temperature of her coffee. this level of service is difficult to find, but very appreciated. very happy with our experience
