There was no one to greet us at the door so we just entered and when we did they asked us for how many, we were showed were to sit after a while. We ordered the Tuna Katsu Set, Tenderloin Katsu Set, Chicken Cutlet Set, Iced Teas for our drink, and the Matcha Lychee Cake for dessert. We were given service water while waiting, and in a few minutes the cabbage salad was served, followed by our iced tea. The salad was really delicious, and I'm glad my mother liked it since the treat is for her. The rest of our food was served within minutes. We asked for spoon and fork since there is soup, and we're really not good at using chopsticks . As for the taste of the food, everything was delicious, the katsu was cooked perfectly and not oily at all. Their condiments also complimented it, we really love the dressing provided at the table for the cabbage, and also the katsu sauce. Iced tea was also good, and the matcha lychee cake is the perfect dessert to end this lunch. The only thing that prevented this lunch from being a perfect dining experience was the service, it seems to me that they are understaffed on a Sunday. We had to ask four different persons for our iced tea to be refilled, and finally the fourth person we asked refilled it. I don't know if they are understaffed or the staff we asked for the refills forgot about it. Anyway, getting the bill was easy, and I still would want to go back to try other dishes.
1st visit at Saboten BGC, food is really good! if your favorite is Katsu, Saboten should be the top choice for you! Katsu is good as the standard, price is a bit high but if compare to food, is acceptable. Their service is also follow the standard not too impressive or disappoint, I would try again but maybe Glorrieta branch.
Me and my wifey arrive here at around 8:30 - 9:00pm, they are pretty much open of course. It was a dinner for us. The presentation was good, the ambiance is good, a bit pricey, but still worth it. What I don't like a bit is the service. Sorry guys, it really is a factor for me. Well they are courteous though. But some of the time their actions seems discriminating, and when we are asking for refills, it takes time to return. Well I understand that maybe they are tired or someting, but still I think it matter for those who dines.
IDK if it's just me or there's too much breading. The size of the cream dory was very small and the entire breading came off of the fish after one bite. I also found a strand of hair in my rice.
My favorite place for katsu fix! IMO, even their shredded cabbage, miso soup, dipping sauce, and salad dressing all taste better than their competitors' I've dined in both branches (Makati and BGC), and I've always been satisfied with the food and service. Serving time can be a drag sometimes especially if you come in at peak hours but personally, I don't mind since I really love their food. My absolute favorite is the Original Tenderloin. If it's your first time at Saboten, I highly recommend getting this or the Original Loin. My boyfriend likes their claypot katsu and curry katsu as well. As for their desserts, the hazelnut cake is okay. I wouldn't mind ordering it again but I prefer desserts from other establishments.
