I had high hopes for the buttery, which was beautifully renovated, but I fear both eating and service were a great disappointment when I were three friends for. last week. it wasn't very busy and we sat right inside and nobody brought menus, so we had to find them. two of us asked for suppe and a hearty bean and bee, but they said: “We only have fertilizers” as if they were going with suppe! brot was not such an interesting replacement. we waited for half an hour to eat. the suppe itself as a sweet kartoffel and cocosnus was openly tasteless (we both agreed.) I had asked for cornish yarg, but what came was brie. When I pointed out, the waitress replied, “Can’t they be the same?” and “no other has complained.” she added that they had escaped from the bride. another friend ordered a mature Cheddar sandwich, but said the cheese tasted more like a processed cheese slice. again no apologise or offer to meet the cook. I'm afraid there's no communication in the kitchen. a lovely experience
Since we had not booked an breakfast in our hotel, this was the first of our three breakfasts, although given the time brunch a better description could be. we had planned to visit kenwood house and breakfast there, but the lack of signs and signs. our simply wandering in vain hope that we stumble on them meant that after a piece trek we landed over the heath in the burgh house. we decided to eat and drink something to restore our energy levels and were pleasantly surprised to find the buttery. the late breakfast included cumberland sausage and chorizo hatch, orange juice and two coffee each. Although the sun seemed, it was a bit cool, so we ate in a little caffe. the service was pleasant, reasonable fast, eating very nice and at £33 reasonable for what it was and the location.
This is a beautiful environment for a visitor in hampstead, a joy of itself. the garden is very attractive and the museum interesting. pity that the service in caffe is so poor.
I can't wait to go back. The location is completely charming, with great coffee. The garden looks so lush this time of year (mid-May). The staff is friendly and accommodating. They really appreciate the necessary precautions in place.
Worth visiting for the early interiors of the 18th century, the local excavation and excellent caffe.
