The service at this restaurant was outstanding and the burger and chicken parmi were delicious. I would definitely recommend stopping here if you're in the area. Plus, they have their own lager which is also fantastic.
I have eaten here several times before. The atmosphere is always warm and friendly. On the day we visited it was very busy as the other hotel in the village was only taking booked reservations. As a consequence of the busy-ness, the service was a bit slow however the food was good and our toddler granddaughter was also well catered for. The family left all satisfied.
We stopped for a quick lunch as we headed back to Sydney through Goulburn. The soup was delicious, and we enjoyed sitting in the sunshine in the beer garden.
The Taralga Hotel makes a good food and drinks pit stop when driving through the area. Taralga itself is a small, rural town between Bathurst and Golburn. Whilst, most people probably pass through en route rather than stay, it’s a very nice town to spend a few hours. I liked it a lot. The hotel was built in 1876 and is the last fully operating pub left in Taralga the Argyle down the road is only open limited hours, Fri Sun). It’s a traditional country pub, located on the main street, with two storeys and a wrap around verandah. We stopped for lunch and a drink after visiting the nearby Wombeyan Caves. The food was decent ‘pub grub’ mainly schnitzel, parmy, burgers and pizzas but a few extras as well like falafel salad and lamb rags with hand made pappardelle. The burgers come with names like ‘Flamin’ Galah’ and ‘Radio Birdman’. My ‘Taralga Pub Burger’ $16) was fine and I enjoyed it. However my friend’s ‘Cheeky Cheesey Burger’ $14) was a a bit dry and plain. All burgers come with large servings of chips so don’t order them separately. It doesn’t say so on the menu and unfortunately no one mentioned this when we ordered a couple of extra baskets of chips. We ended up a stack of unwanted chips which went uneaten. However service was quick and a couple of times someone popped out to check everything was OK. There are a number of sitting areas. We sat out the front, under the shade of the upstairs verandah where there are a handful of trestle tables. There are a couple of other outdoor seating areas, at the back and the side, although there’s no real beer garden as such. Inside there’s a pool table and a number of different sections where you can sit, although like most large, old pubs, its a little dark inside. Overall this is a good stopping point and will suit families. It was a nice finish to our Wombeyan Caves day.
