In the 1870s a fire destroyed every building in the city of Taylor with the exception of this building. It's quite an old timeline that sells well-known BBQ. We had fun to visit with some of the regular guests and owners of the place. The old man must be in his 90s and still wears his cooking apron. He sits at the front door and receives people when they come in. When we left, I wanted to get his photo, but he snapped at the time. Just in Texas.
A hidden gem in Taylor almost under the viaduct and across the train. Don't give the turkey sausage up. Very good. Note that they are NOT credit cards.
This is a children's hood memory with my grandfather, who still stands exactly as I remember. The sausage is my favorite, it's more dry than others. Potato salad and beans are perfect with ribs and sauce raw onion and pickles of the course. Really delicious and secret. My husband only surprised me with some sausage for lunch and there was a lack of salt on potatoes. The sausage seemed different. Do you wonder if they changed Koch? I love this walk in time. I recommend it.
We were very happy that the bbq place we had planned had a 40-minute waiting time, so we landed here on the recommendation of a friendly local. I ordered the 3 meat plate with ribs, sausage and cut beef, and it was all delicious. The meal came with beans and potato salad. The beans were the best I had in my whole life! The prices were great! The lady waiting for us was very friendly and helpful. After we commented on how much we enjoyed the meal, the chef invited us back to see the bbq pit, followed by a quick visit with the owner, a WWII vet that started the restaurant in the 40s. This turned our visit to more an event instead of a meal. You can't beat food and hospitality. I definitely come back when I'm in town.
This was a great old country BBQ experience. The building is tucked around a gravel road, a big bridge, and a rail road track.. so cool. This place seemed to be accustom to regulars and I was not sure what to do when I walked in. Right after I had a seat I was greeted warmly. The menu is small but classic. Meat by the pound, sandwiches, and BBQ plates with only two sides, beans and potato salad. The potato salad is really good but the beans seemed bland. The brisket was lean and tender, the sausage was not greasy : and the the sauce was very authentic. Great REAL food. Over all this place was great and then on our way out we talked with the owner who is a World War Veteran. I loved this experience! Cash only and there is a pool table and they sell beer.
