I just went east for an afternoon drive from my home in La Mesa and... ascended in Tecate. First I went to a panderia and took some cookies and a few bottles of water to take the road into the park and observe under a tree and people. Okay, so I did this and realized I was hungry. While I walked around, I saw this place and decided to go and I'm glad I did. The hostess/server didn't speak English, and I don't speak Spanish, so I just asked a customer who was randomly bilingual to get something with shrimp in it and order it for me. Great! I had the Camarones (shrimp) something rojo al ajo, and it was excellent! A mild red sauce with whole and chopped shrimps, onions, peppers, garlic, rice and a salad of avocados, tomatoes and cucumbers! It was all with three huge glasses of a truly unique/big iced tea. $14 was all. Never miss small places like these if you are somewhere in Mexico, miss some great food experiences!!!
This place is a small hole in the wall, slightly overlooked, but I'm glad we found it. We were the only people on a Sunday afternoon. Every dish we had was absolutely delicious! Absolutely. We will definitely come back!
On the way back from an overnight Rosarita Wine Country Tour, the four of us in Tecate stopped on the way to Alpin, California and dined in Mariscos Cajeme. The ambience, service and food are excellent. It cost about 1/2 or less of what you would expect to pay for the same meal in the USA. We ordered and rehearse around the table white lake bass (a delicacies, shrimps, mussels, ceviche, fish tacos, and tecate beer and a good white wine. Everything was fresh and beautifully prepared. (Of course, before we sit down, I put my head in the kitchen and realized that it was immaculately clean. KEEP ONE THING IN MIND. ICH I
My wife and I stayed at Mariscos Cajeme on the way back from an overnight road to Ensenada and the wine country Valle de Guadalupe (Route 3). The meal we enjoyed at Mariscos Cajeme before we went back to the USA at Tecate was fantastic... and a great value for the money we spent. The Chavela was ice-cold, refreshing and delicious. For dinner we enjoyed the Pulpo al Mojo de Ajo (Octopus sauteed with garlic) and the Camarones a la Diabla (Shrimp in a spicy garlic and chili sauce). The plates cost 110 pesos (approximately $9 per piece) and included a brownish/spicy vegetable soup (first course), while the reige plates arrived with a fresh garden salad (with avocado), lush rice, a baked potato with all trimmings, and generous help of the well-prepared and tasteful entree portions. In short, if you have the opportunity to visit Tecate and you want a large seafood meal, don't miss Mariscos Cajeme. We'll certainly be back there when we come to Tecate for the next time.
