Brief review: it was okay, but not okay enough for us to go back. Longer version: Stopped in a couple Saturdays ago, around 4:30. There was a please wait to be seated sign which was funny because in that large space there was only one other customer. There were three employees in the back, talk. We were seated quickly. I enjoyed the decorations but the temp inside made me wonder if their a/c was broken. The first red flag was when we ordered sweet tea they delivered us unsweet tea with sugar packets. Huh? Why have sweet tea and unsweet tea on the menu if you 're only going to deliver unsweet tea? Having sweet tea on the menu indicates it is already sweet, not a do-it-yourself deal. The second red flag was the appetizers. We got a dirty plate, the fried green tomatoes were paper thin (there was more crust than tomato), and the hushpuppies were completely bland. Even adding butter was no help. My sister enjoyed her sausasage po-boy and cajun fries, although the fries were no longer warm. I had seen our food sitting up at their counter and it sat there for some time. I ordered the red bean bowl. Unfortunately, it too was bland. The spicy sausage was barely there and not enough to help with the flavor. I also am certain the beans should not have what looks like a dry outer growth to them. To be fair, no, I have never lived in Louisiana. Maybe the food is how it 's supposed to be, but when I think about the meals we had at Baby Kay 's, there is absolutely no comparison. If I want cajun food again, Flavors of LA is out. Baby Kay 's is in.
First time to visit. Great food and excellent hospitality. Would recommend, especially to those who are first timers.
This place would get 5 stars if they communicated better or were faster. We waited forever just for our water. Over an hour for the food to arrive and there was no communication. When the food arrived, however, it was worth it! If you don’t have to be anywhere for a while and have time, I’d recommend them. The people were friendly. They need to have music and more lighting though. That would add to the vibe. I got the Etouffee with shrimp and it was SO GOOD!!
Ok this is a two part review. My wife and I were really, really wanting to eat some good, authentic Cajun food.We got there at about 6:05pm Saturday evening. We asked for some water. We were kind of looking around, the place was pretty deserted, it was my wife, me and three other couples in an about 950 sq ft place. There was no ambiance, no music, no lighting, just a big room, quiet, awkward.I thought it was odd. Our server, a young lady, was very nice, very soft spoken. I noticed it was just her and the cook working that day. On a Saturday night? I started to get concerned. The water came at about 25 minutes later. I started to think this was a huge mistake. We ordered our meal, my wife ordered and Étouffée and I ordered the Jolie Blon, both of us with a salad. We asked our waitress to please bring our salads first. Our salads came at around the 30 minute mark. We were starving, still smiling and hoping at least our food is good.Salad was fine, it was a salad you would get anywhere else.No one ever came in after us. They were not busy. It was still us and three other couples. At around 45 minutes after ordering, we got our food. After 7pm I noticed that the lighting changed and the music started to play, maybe is in a timer???I was really really hoping the wait was worthwhile. And it was!!!!My meal the Jolie Blon, was SOOOO delicious!!! Every bite had an immense amount of flavor! I closed my eyes to be able to take it all in. It was so delightful!!!My wife’s étouffée was also great! It tasted so good and authentic. The cook was ON POINT! He knows what’s he’s doing! So I’m telling you, if you want authentic delicious Cajun food? COME HERE!!!BUUUUT!!!!If you’re starving and cannot wait for your meal? You will have a bad time waiting. So come here knowing that you will wait for a very long time, but you will get amazing and delicious Cajun food.If I could review the food alone? I would give it the highest amount of stars I could. But because it’s a combined review I can only give it 4, but I would rate 5 star for food, 2 star for everything else.
