La Veladora Restaurant & Bar

A few blocks from the market, in downtown Tepoztlán, we went here a rainy weekend night. In these Kovid-19 days, many of the regular restaurants, offered in this magical city, only lead or limited seating open in the interior with the windows. La Veladora offers fine food, in a beautiful covered terrace, with a quiet garden and running water. We shared Tostadas hongos w/ jengibre, citrus salad and bbq de totol. Everything amazing! Hidden with a wall of Casa Fernanda Hotel and Spa, it is worth walking in the rain. Bring a screen from your hotel, and your appetite and a mobile phone, as they use QR code for the menu link.

Had a nice breakfast in Veladora for a long weekend stay. The garden area is beautiful. The water is a beautiful touch. I had pain au chocolat and a croissant with jam. My wife had the Huevos rancheros (picked delicious). The restaurant, facilities and staff are all 5 star quality.

Food was delicious, everything we ordered was really good, highly recommended, service was also great.

We were there for a weekend dinner and our experience was way different than the many excellent reviews for La Veladora. The al fresco dining experience adjacent to the well kept garden was a plus. It creates a nice atmosphere. Too, the food presentation was a plus, they 've obviously put some thought into that. The food, however, did not meet the expectations we had based on the ratings. The plato del barrio and the enchiladas de huerto were ... just good. I was expecting a wow based on the reviews and that the menu has only a few things on it (generally an indication that a restaurant has things it does well and showcases them in the menu). However, that was not the case. My biggest issue, however, came at the end of the meal. Our bill with the wine and the appetizer came to 1199mxn. They said their card terminals were not working, so I paid 1500 cash. The waiter (Alan on the ticket) returned with 201 I didn 't recognize that I was 100 short, instead picking up the 200 note and telling him hay que cambiar esto as I did not have the right combination of bills to make a tip. 10 minutes later we finally went to the front desk and asked for our change. They called the waiter up, who argued that he had given us the right change and thought the 200 was a tip. I 've been in Latin America for 20 years. My Spanish is perfectly adequate for business issues, day to day life, and a host of other things. This was nothing more than a scam the gringo move. Beware.

Excelente comida, preparado en el momento y con un sabor delicioso. El servicio también muy bueno. Muy recomendable.
