We happened upon this hidden gem during our two-day stay in Margate. My partner and I were drawn by the charming books in the windows and decided to check it out. The smell inside was delightful and the atmosphere was cozy, filled with antiques, local goods, books, Lego figures, and an old bike. Luckily, a small table was available for us. We were greeted by a friendly man named Jason, who informed us that he and Ian ran the restaurant together. I ordered a local pear cider called the Wise Owl, which was excellent, while my partner enjoyed a beautiful British pinot noir. For our starters, I had a delicious butternut pumpkin soup and my partner had a delightful mushroom dish. The main course was absolutely outstanding. The pie was like something out of a grandmother's kitchen, with a perfect crust, rich filling, and delicious potatoes. The portion size was very generous. We could barely finish the sweet dessert that came with the pie, which was also fantastic. We were looking forward to a lemon and berries dessert but were too full to try it. Jason and Ian also make their own gin, and I couldn't resist buying a rhubarb Kentish gin to save for a special occasion. The price for all this amazing food was surprisingly affordable. I must admit that I was not familiar with Jason and Ian before this meal, but I am so grateful for the unforgettable experience. They truly have a gift for creating delicious food and a warm atmosphere. Thank you for a wonderful evening! Respectfully, Christos.
Fantastic eating and a free glass of wine! the personal would not have been more friendly. will definitely return if back in the opposite.
Really good! Very surprised, as from outside I thought was a pub. Very cool environment, super relaxed and warm but the best was the food and the people. Strong recommend! Unfortunately I couldn’t try more than 1 dish but many others sounded super appealing... maybe next time I come to Margate. I had the mussels and were amazing. Loved the curried and coconut taste, addictive! Went to the Chef to ask for recommendation and they were super helpful and spot on! Congratulations for the cool restaurant and friendly people. Continue the good work. Cheers.
Fantastic meal on Sunday, wonderful roast lamb and Boeuf Bourguignon followed by home made sticky toffee pud, great selection of local drinks and produce you can buy and take with you. Bought some good pickled eggs and chilli mayo. Would highly recommend this place and can't wait to go again and try the Pie!!
We had a fantastic brunch at The Kentish Pantry and we appreciate Jason's attention to detail. We will definitely return to sample more delicious dishes in the future!
