Feedback gevenThis is my favorite burrito spot in the city center.
I ordered the fish burrito from Foodora after seeing positive reviews, but I was extremely disappointed with the food.
Although it looks like a ramshackle establishment with limited menu options, the place was nevertheless a delight. The decor is best described as "rustic eclectic" and the owners appeared to be characters from the old Beverly Hillbillies TV show...and were just as much fun to be around. The menu didn't offer many choices but the food was tasty and reasonably priced. There are not many restaurants outside of Killbear Provincial Park and the Bread and Butter is a fun place for filling your belly before heading for a hike in the park.
The Bread 'n Butter Kitchen is another place I have driven past a hundred times on my way to and from Killbear park. This time I decided to stop in to see what it is about (maybe it was the "Cold Beer" sign out front that first drew my attention). The outside of the building doesn't do the inside ambiance justice. Maggie, the owner, has a collection oddities & antiques on display with some for sale. I appreciated her making me "custom made" a lunch for me when I told her I don't eat meat. Maggie has converted the restaurant to be an "All Day Breakfast" place on the weekends and this works just fine for me. Maggie, in her 70s, has a great sense of humour and I thoroughly enjoyed the 1:1 conversation with her while enjoying her fantastic cooking. I especially enjoyed hearing about her impressions of Killbear campers, how they have changed over the years, and how business improves on Wednesdays when some campers have had it with bad weather half way through their 1wk vacation. After enjoying the meal and time with Maggie, I purchased some of her baked goods on display and they were great too. Maggie also sells firewood, ice, etc and has onsite storage for trailers, etc. I am going to make Bread 'n Butter Kitchen a routine stop of mine during my stays at Killbear. And yes, Maggie's place is licensed if you do want to enjoy a drink with your meal as I did. ;)
Ahoy there, It's finally happened! I mustered up the courage and determination to give this place another shot.
