For lunch, I opted for Ayamase with white rice — probably a bad choice on a 100-degree day! I finished my water and Fanta before I even finished my meal; it was spicy enough to make anyone break a sweat. Overall, I really enjoyed this place. It's a quiet spot in a nice shopping plaza, and it's easy to find. The staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere was just right. I'll definitely be returning on my next trip to Houston. Kudos to the Baba Jollof team!
The owner was friendly, but that was about it. I ordered fried rice, suya, and eba stew, and I found it to be quite unpleasant. All the meat was devoid of salt and lacked flavor; it was bland and not spicy at all. The rice was just passable. Overall, this was the worst Nigerian food I've ever tasted. Perhaps he should consider hiring a new cook. I'm very disappointed.
A kind gentleman introduced me to Baba Jollof for my first visit to the restaurant. I was truly delighted by the pepper soup with fish and rice! The spiciness of the soup combined with the tender fish created a wonderful explosion of flavors that showcased the beauty of Nigerian cuisine. If you're a fan of soup, you will definitely love the pepper soup! I want to emphasize the word *hit because, believe me, the pepper soup is HOT and spicy!
I was thrilled to discover spaghetti on the menu! It's a personal favorite of mine that I often struggle to find at restaurants, and it definitely hit the spot. I also enjoyed the Jollof rice, although, as others have mentioned, it does have a bit of a kick to it. The Beef Suya was tasty, and I appreciated the quality. However, it was prepared differently from what I'm used to; the seasoning was sprinkled on top rather than being marinated, so the flavors didn’t fully penetrate the meat (this might just be a matter of personal preference). The chicken was similar—slightly bland on the inside. Despite that, there was ample seasoning overall, and once everything was mixed together, it was quite enjoyable. The plantains were cooked perfectly; I wish everyone made them this way! The portions were generous, and the service was attentive. The restaurant and lounge were very clean, including the restrooms. The music and ambiance created a great atmosphere for dinner or just hanging out and enjoying hookah. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place!
I've always enjoyed Jollof Rice, but after discovering Coconut Rice a few years back, I typically order that with goat or beef at most restaurants. I love the addition of shrimp and carrots in it. I’ve wanted to try Baba Jollof for quite some time, and since they’re available on Uber Eats, I decided to give them a shot. Looking through the menu, I noticed they offer not just the regular Jollof Rice but also a Party Jollof Rice, which piqued my interest. I ordered the Party Jollof Rice with beef. When it arrived, the rice looked inviting and there seemed to be a good amount of it. However, when I tasted it, I found it to be quite dry, and the chicken pieces were very tough. I couldn't tell if the chicken was old or simply overcooked. There were a lot of peas, which I'm not really a fan of, but that's just my personal taste. Unfortunately, the dish lacked carrots; I would have preferred if it had more of them, as I really enjoy carrots. In fact, I ended up eating only a small portion of the rice. As for the beef, it had the potential to be great if it had been simmered in the tomato stew. It seemed like it was just prepared separately, so it tasted like plain beef and missed that Nigerian flavor I love. I really enjoy a good stew, and if the meat had been generously coated in it, I would have had no complaints. On a positive note, I tried a couple of plantains, and they were quite tasty. I prefer my plantains to have a slight crisp, and these met that expectation. I would be open to trying Baba Jollof again, but next time, I would prefer to dine in at the restaurant instead of ordering through an app.
