Feedback gevenThe staff were friendly and professional. The yams and macaroni were delicious. I forgot to ask for my rib tips without gravy since I'm not a fan of it, so that's on me. Next time, I’ll definitely request fresh barbecued rib tips. I’ll give them another try!
I waited over an hour for my food. I ordered the smothered chicken with mac and cheese and yams. To start, the chicken wasn't smothered at all; it was fried and covered in a thick, salty gravy that was quite unappetizing. The mac and cheese was served cold, as if it had just come out of the fridge. There was barely any rice on my plate. Additionally, the Kool-Aid tasted like soapy sugar water, and I felt nauseous halfway through it, so I ended up throwing it away. The service was terrible, with no apologies or explanations given for the long wait. I definitely won't be returning to this place; it's not worth risking my health.
The food here was amazing! I ordered the two meats (catfish and rib tips) along with two sides (cabbage and macaroni and cheese). I was a bit taken aback by the price, but once I received my meal and saw the generous portions, it was absolutely worth it. I will definitely be returning!
Coming from a family with restaurant experience, I know that consistency is key, particularly when customers are paying top dollar for a dish. If the price is so high, it would make sense to weigh the oxtails to ensure fairness for the customer. I'm seriously considering not returning, which saddens me, as I don't want to spend so much for what I received today. Additionally, the cornbread was burnt. On a positive note, I live just down the street and tried this place for the first time yesterday. I can't stop thinking about those delicious oxtails and my double side of mac and cheese. I've been missing out all this time! The oxtail plate is priced at $19.99, and it's worth every penny. Have you seen the price of uncooked oxtails at the store? They are pricey and require careful cooking at home to avoid ruining them. Why take that risk when you can dine here? I noticed someone mentioned the sweetness added to the mac and cheese, and while it's true, I understand that this is a common practice in Southern cuisine, especially with pasta. I wasn't shocked, and it doesn't mean it's not delicious—it just has a different twist. As a Mexican, I might not be the best judge of whether this tastes like home-cooked meals, but I can assure you it's finger-licking good! I've tried a different soul food restaurant near West Oaks Mall (not far from The Main Kitchen), and I wouldn't recommend it. Their prices increased, but the quality didn't improve (for example, chewy ground beef). This place is so much better! And to anyone complaining about wait times, I…
I really love this place! They serve generous portions, and the prices are reasonable compared to other soul food and urban restaurants in the area. I appreciate the convenience of having a drive-thru as well. I definitely recommend checking out Main Kitchen. I would give them five stars, but I wasn’t a fan of the sweet flavor in the greens; the cabbage tasted like it had sugar added. I also didn’t enjoy the dirty rice. Despite that, I would still recommend this restaurant to friends and family. #SupportBlackBusinesses!
