Dr Laffa - Thornhill

We tried Dr. Laffa this week for dinner at the Hilda/Clark location. We were quite disappointed. We are regular customers of the Dr. Laffa south location, which is really mainly for take-out. So we decided to try the north location. The Humus was very watery - probably way too much tehina. When we brought it to the attention of the server - she simply shrugged her shoulders. The Shawarma was undercooked and underspiced. Really tasted just like stir fried chicken with a bit of spice and not at all like authentic shawarma. It wasn't even made the same way as in the southern location (at Bathurst/Lawrence) The salad was mostly iceberg lettuce with hardly any cucumber or tomato. I appreciate that Toronto area kosher restaurants face a really hard time dealing with the local Vaad - and that it is hard to find enough clientele. But this was well below the standard of even the old Dr. Laffa that had been located on Supercrest. It is a shame really. It really shouldn't be that hard to make decent, kosher Israeli food. Sadly, there aren't that many choices in the GTA - so I may have to stick to eating Mideastern food in Israel....

Visited the restaurant on a weekday evening and we were seated quickly and the server came to us almost immediately. The food and service was excellent, best mid-east food I have had in a long time. We had the breaded chicken dinner which came with 2 sides. We chose the salad and French fries. The chicken came in 3 large pieces and the salad and fries were really fresh. Went back a second time and it was just as good.

Being a BIG fan of the original Dr Laffa on Bathurst, I wasn't impressed here.

Humus and falafel was delicious! But the laffa was amazing! Loved it and would definitely come back.
