The place is always busy and has typically 8 or 10 curries made along with an assortment of rice and vegetables. Roti and other breads are made to order as are a variety of special dishes. We had two mains and two server of Roti bread with 3 different sources for $30, including side salads of spiced onions and pineapple.. Place if friendly and bustling - with tables turning over every 30 minutes or so and people happily waiting. They are famous for their goat curry (bone in of course) which is hot, spicy and very satisfying. Their fish curry (hot and often whole fish is also popular). This time I had the lamb curry (always good) and my wife had a milder chicken Korma (still on the medium side of hot for wester tastes. She liked it and we will be back every few weeks when the craving for spices hits.
His food is more in the South Indian Malaysian food realm. Meaning lots of chillies, tamarind and curry pastes. The chef, Balan has brought his trade from Malaysia and provided a huge gap in Indian cuisine for Perth, which tends to favour North Indian food. His breads like Roti Canai, Roti Telur and Murtabak is 2nd to none in WA. His signature fish curry and dry curry (varuvel) for both lamb and chicken is real crowd's favourite. Constantly busy and consistently tasty.. kudos Balan.
We had lunch at Cafe Rasa Sayang on Tuesday, March 28, 2017.This establishment was packed on a Tuesday afternoon ... this should tell you a lot about their food!My family dines here regularly and wanted us to try their murtabak. It's kind of like a thick omelette filled with onions and your choice of lamb, chicken or sardines. We opted for the lamb murtabak and it was delicious ...We also tried the fried fish, fish sambal, chicken 65 and biryani ... very nice and spicy.Their menu also includes items like roti canai, thosai, homemade curries, biryani and quite a few vegetarian selections. The establishment itself is not in its cleanest state, but if you can overlook that, you will enjoy the food here. It's a family run business and the staff are very nice. We enjoyed our last meal at Cafe Rasa Sayang while on vacation in Perth ...
We went there with friends. The place reminded me of home ie. Crowded with the familiar smell of curry and spice. We ordered rice with meat and veg, and pratha. The rice dish was delicious but the meat was a tad spicy. The pratha was a large helping and was delicious. All in all, a fairly tasty meal but slightly pricey for the quality of food served.
The only other authentic Malaysian South Indian outlet in Perth, the other being Sri Devi's in Northbridge. But Rasa Sayang is my firm favourite, as their dishes keep to the true Malaysian flavours with real spice punch!! For those who love their chillies / spicy food, this place is a no-brainer.Where else will I find chicken varuval that is beautiful in colour, served with dry chilli paste and absolutely stunning in taste!Their chicken kurma, lamb perattal, goat curry, lamb shank curry and fried mackerel are equally authentic.Kudos to the owner, Mr. Balan for maintaining quality and flavours true to Malaysian South Indian curry houses!
