We called in for lunch here today. It has a great classic Aussie pub feel or you could imagine it would, had there been more than a tiny handful of people eating or having a drink. It's a large space, with few seats and...loads of standing room, with large open windows to let in air and keep down heat levels. The food wasn't inexpensive plus pretty average in quality. I had a fish burger and, though huge, was rather dry and a tad tasteless. The spagbol was also deemed decidedly average. It's a decent enough pit stop on this beautiful coastal drive but not really worth a revisit.
I always factor in a visit to Cow Bay Pub when in the Daintree. It is a classic, old school pub with friendly staff, reasonably priced drinks and food and a special atmosphere.
Just made it here in time for lunch after a full morning of sightseeing before the kitchen closed at 2.30pm. Ordered a beef burger to share, which was nice but nothing special and certainly overpriced at $23. OUCH! Noticed a couple with two young kids...came in the door at about 2.27pm and were turned away. Guess the kitchen closed at 2.27pm for them. Not good business when you’re selling $23 burgers – and a bit heartless to turn away hungry children! Another couple even questioned the waitress over the decision but she was not bothered. Surely something could have been offered!? Wouldn't recommend Cow Bay Hotel not when there's so many other options available in the area that are cheaper and offer more interesting menu items.
Had a steak sandwich which was massive. Nice and tasty with a hope of toppings. Egg, cheese, salad and chips.
