What is sad is that I am not this person that does this kind of thing and I really debated for quite a while on whether or not to leave this review. I have decided that I should because another local close by business let me know that in the last couple weeks people have been coming into her place going on and on about how horrible it is. I figured I would leave this review and maybe save some other people from having the same experience as myself and many others have already had. First off... I would never wish ill will on a new business in my community, please understand that, matter of a fact I have been excited for this place to open. I get there and the man who I am going to guess is the owner and sole worker is outside on the phone and appeared to be smoking, no huge deal, as long as he thoroughly washed his hands. He follows me inside and very quickly and half ass washed those dirty little hands. That bothered me from the jump. Then I tell him I want one of these breakfast burritos I saw on the FB Page for $6. He said that he had to raise the price to $7. So wait... You have been open all of 2 weeks+ and you already are scribbling out your prices and writing new ones in??? Ok either way I am going to assume that extra $1 for meat listed is for extra meat... Nope, I stand corrected the burrito comes with Potatoes, eggs, rice, cheese, and veggies for $7... if you want meat in your breakfast burrito that will be an extra $1, now making this breakfast $8 which is already double what I normally spend on my breakfast. Ok so I decide that I 'm all in now and I go ahead and tell him to put the sausage on and make it an $8 burrito. While he is making my burrito I 'm trying to get to know this new small business owner and so I start having small talk. In trying to spark up convo about his business and how he got started in the culinary field, more so I am curious why he chose to have a Mexican style burrito place and he is very much so not of that culture, no biggie, I 'm not either and I was a chef for years that specialized in authentic Mexican and Latin foods, crafts I learned by having some amazing mentors in culinary land... Again I thought it might be a fun story... Instead of coming out and just telling me he started actually verbally bashing other local businesses and comparing their breakfast burritos to his and going on and on about why theirs are so awful. Some of the businesses he bashed were Super Oscars, La Roca, even Food Fair. Then after bashing these businesses while making this apparently epic burrito he tells me he learned his craft at The Galley Ho , then also said he continued to work there after TheGalley Ho turned into a Mexican restaurant that ultimately failed. This whole introduction to Toledo Burritto has started out pretty unpleasant and unprofessional but the worst part is where he tried to charge me an extra $1 for the extra salsa I asked for because the one he gave me was a 1/2 full 2oz cup. He told me he makes it from scratch and that I wouldn 't understand but it 's expensive. You are right, I wouldn 't understand buddy. Salsa is the CHEAPEST thing you can make from scratch in a Mexican Cuisine Restaurant so I wouldn 't understands why it 's expensive. I declined the extra salsa and left it at that. The burrito... 75% Potatoes 0% Rice (That he bragged made his burrito apart from the rest and then didn 't even add it) 5% Egg... I watched him put 1 egg in the pan but I couldn 't hardly even find egg in my burrito. 5% Peppers Onions... At least I think I hit into one or two pieces of pepper or onion. 10% Sausage, I paid and extra $1 for such a tiny handful of sausage I didn 't even taste sausage until bite 3 or 4. 5% Cheese Not sure about any of you but this is NOT an $8 burrito. And now let 's get to the salsa, you know the one he sells for $1 for a 1/2 full 2oz cup... it tasted like watered down blended Pico de Gallo that he forgot to put Jalapeños in and put extra cilantro in place of. Almost flavorless and if it was in fact homemade he needs to look up a new recipe. Judging by the lack of flavor I 'm going to assume he maybe put 4 ingredients tops in this super expensive from scratch salsa. So as a well known local foodie and chef... You maybe didn 't want to serve up this mediocre Potato Burrito to me yesterday morning. Your poor customer service and bashing of local businesses is not only annoying but unprofessional and can make your new business a quick thing of the past. Sad thing is I was really excited to try your burritos and give your new business a chance. I 'm not coming back though, not even if I got free year supply of those $8 Potato Burritos .
Lumber Jack portions, delicious Mexican styled food. Suggesting the steak burrito boat!
Great tacos, generous portions, nice people, open for breakfast.
It was a sunny crisp day so I drove the Bay road from Newport to Toledo to visit this new restaurant I read about in the business section of the News Times. Sheldon the owner and staff warmly greeted me upon arrival. They took the time to talk about their offerings and what they have been doing since opening in October. I ordered 2 shredded pork tacos and steak nachos. The tacos were huge... double corn tortillas stuffed with moist pork and topped with fresh lettuce, tomato, cilantro and peppers. The nacho chips were substantial and fried upon order. The queso sauce was creamy and loaded with fajita steak and beans. My order was headed for Newport and I was pleased with how everything was packaged. Cold veggies packaged separately from the queso sauce, separate from the chips. Cups were included for salsa which was hot with a slight hint of sweet and sour cream to cool it down. Everything was still warm when I unwrapped the items at home. I was impressed and will definitely return to try the breakfast and lunch burritos. The prices are very reasonable steak nachos were $8, the pork tacos $4.50 each. What you need to know: this is a new business and Sheldon is still getting setup and tinkerting with the menu. There is not much in the way of dining room seating. Take it to go and walk across the street and enjoy the Port of Toledo water front park. They are open from 6am to 3pm and offer a daily special. Today's special was jambalaya.
