We are here very often on a Saturday morning - great being in the main street nice view up and down the street. Love the coffee and tea which comes in beautiful teapots and cups. They do a lovely meal - the fish and chips are my favourite!
Yes, it was a hot day, but they had three air conditioning units inside (I counted them). Only one seemed to be working and it was pretty pathetic in trying to cool this place down. My friend and I both had the fish and chips (with salad) for lunch. At $21 I thought it was very overpriced for the 'ambience' of this cafe, which was basic at best. The fish and chips tasted OK, and the salad came with a classic slice of beetroot and grated cheese, so beloved of the 1960s. And a packet of tartare sauce. You had to help yourself to cutlery and condiments (none were on the table -- for the price, I expected to at least have a set table), and had to order at the counter. There were no smiles or banter for the price. No complaints about the food, but the service was perfunctory at best, and the lack of any amenities for customers -- including a working air conditioner -- meant a low rating from me.
Stepped over the threshold over an hour before closing to be 'greeted' by the owner from the other side of the cafe saying that most of the staff had gone home but she might be able to accommodate us depending on what we wanted. Unable to say what was available, we had to submit the queries until we arrived at two over-priced burgers. I'd seen a sign on the window stating that, 'all burgers come with salad'. In fact, we were sitting outside in front of that sign when the burgers were plonked unceremoniously in front of us. Mine had not as much as a lettuce leaf in or around the burger but was smothered in some roadhouse-fashion brown sauce, egg overcooked, cheap salty, fatty bacon. My husband's did have some garnish in the burger but it was 'meat-filler' not beef and no salad in sight. There's a lovely bakery right next door but the buns were mass produced fast food style. The owner never came back to check if everything was OK (I kept looking out for her to ask for my salad) and it was up to us to collect the condiments from inside. We left feeling unfulfilled and disappointed. This person is completely unsuited to the hospitality industry. It is appalling to think that visitors to our state might get treated in such a rude way. Give this one a miss.
Enjoyed scones jam and cream along with coffees. Can sit inside or out. So enjoyable came back for seconds
