Although the sign indicated that food was served until 2, we were only a few minutes past that time and just wanted a couple of baguettes. I was disappointed when we were informed bluntly that food service had ended at 2. Despite mentioning that it was Easter Saturday, that it was only shortly after 2, and that we only wanted a simple order of baguettes, we received a dismissive response. There was no apology, no understanding, and no attempt to accommodate us.
Late arrivals, the friendly staff allowed us to order. I only wanted a snack so I had a ploughman's. It was awful! Why o why when we have such amazing bread in Wales do pubs insist on serving frozen undercooked plastic baguette. Ham and cheese were good. Tomato rock hard, horrible pickled onions and a full apple, which is a cute idea, but as we had knives that would have had a job cutting anything. Was it just a bad day in the kitchen or has the Star gone downhill?
My family and I went to this pub for Sunday lunch based on a recommendation from a friend.
Went to the Star for lunch today, 19th and had a very nice afternoon. We've been coming over here three to four times a year for several years and the pub has improved. Food is very good, service is excellent and prices are fine. We enjoyed the Butty Bach real ale. Adam, the manager, is very friendly, helpful and knows his stuff.
After a 50 minute walk, myself and my family popped in here for a bite and a drink. We were told that we were not allowed to order food...however we were then handed FREE baskets of Chips and Sausage! We were flabbergasted. The drinks are so reasonably priced and the staff were so accommodating. Perfect setting and a perfect pub!
