The gnocchi was ordered without hot peppers and somehow came with jalapeñoes. I've been to Italy a couple times and never seen a jalapeño in any meal. It was also very lacking in flavour and the gnocchi it's self was basically a pile of mush.Do yourself a favour, take the $50 you would spend here and go to Terronis.
Food is very tasty and well presented . Staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. Nice ambience
The restaurant has nice ambience especially with the opened doors style in the front. The service is very good and the staff very friendly and helpful which really enhances any dining experience. They are knowledgeable about both the dishes they serve and drinks in general. They all take pride which is great. The menu looked really good but the result on the plates was very mediocre unfortunately. We had fish and a veal chop as well as salads and soups. The soup was too salty and flavourless, the fish was tasteless and not seasoned properly. The sauce on the veal chop was, what I can only describe as, gross and ruined the very expensive dish. The prices were typical Yorkville level so can't really blame them there but when the food is so blah its hard not to feel disappointed.
Here on a Groupon that included a shared appetizer, 2 mains, 2 house wines and a shared dessert for $ 75. Not bad I thought....Well appointed restaurant although the large TV in one corner seemed out of place. It's as if the owners weren't sure it was a casual restaurant or a fine dining restaurant and put the TV in, just in case - to attract the "sports fan"?It's a busy spot on Avenue Road, so throughout the evening we heard screeching tires through the open front patio doors, Quite distracting...Had the Beef Carpaccio - very good. Flavourful beef that just melted in my mouth... The Branzino (European Sea Bass) was also good - but served with oily vegetables, minus a starch which failed to make it an excellent dish. The 12 oz New York Steak (as suggested on the menu) ended up being 5 oz on my plate. No starch and the same oily veg. The chocolate cake was little more than average. Two 6 oz additional glasses of wine came in at $12 each.I've always felt that you put your best foot forward on a Groupon to get repeat business. The misleading representation on tha steak soured my mood. I will not be back even as the meal was not all bad and the service was also good.Watch the womens washroom stall's weird configuration. Stand up too quickly and you'll hit your head especially if you are a tall woman.
Went here with another couple this evening who had offered to pre-purchase a "Groupon" discounted voucher for us too, but I'm just not a coupon type of fine diner, as I expect to pay full pop for full service and attentiveness. From my past experience, "discounted" fine dining has usually meant shortcuts in service, or downsized portions - and yes, justifiably so. Well, the website on which you purchase the coupon shows that the voucher for 2 at $ 75 per couple includes 1 shared appetizer, 2 main course/entrees, a shared dessert, and 2 glasses of non-described wine. Our friends were instead served 2 appetizers, 2 full size entrees from anything on the menu (and they promptly picked the lamb at listed price of $39 each), and of course the shared dessert and wine.....all for $ 75/couple. We instead ordered 1 appetizer which we shared, 2 entrees of approx. $ 26 each, 2 glasses of wine, 2 desserts and 1 espresso coffee....and got a bill for $ 130. Somehow their treatment of "discount" diners seems to beat their treatment of those paying full price...totally unjust and blatantly wrong. Then there was the "owner? manager?"....who walked around with a very negative energy and fake smile...asking if everything was all right, but kept walking and didn't even wait for a reply.....and was using fairly loud expletives with his kitchen staff as I walked past....very rude!! AND IT REALLY IS TOO BAD.....because the food tasted great!......But NO....I probably won't return. Will go where I actually get treated with some respect.
