Reliable Halibut & Chips - Toronto

Walked in and decided to pay $12.99 for halibut and chips. Staff was very friendly and the place seemed clean including the washroom. Portions were good and the fish was not overly greasey. 8/10

Wonderful fish chips! The batter is nice light. The fish has always been fresh. More importantly, every time I've come here, the fish had been fried up to a beautiful light gold brown colour. A good sign that they change the oil on a regular bases....not sitting there for days on end. You may also want to ask if there is a special catch of the day. Once we had a amazing Snapper....so good!This is more of a takeout place. There are very few tables chairs for those who want to eat in. I prefer eating there while the fish is still crispy hot so a few times I had to wait for a seat. The staff are friendly helpful and the place seems clean. If only I lived closer to this place. Then I could eat here on a more regular basis.

Great Fish!. This was the first time in longer than I remember that I didn't have to peel off half of the batter from the fish. Normally whenI get fish and chips from places the batter is heavy and greasy, but at Reliable the fish is battered in a light and crisp coating that is not at all greasy. Loved it. Ok maybe the fries weren't the best but the fish completely makes up for it.

Weird review from CBC. The review (see link above) seems to want to give all the credit for good things at Reliable to the 'Restaurant Makeover ' people. She should have done a little more research. Reliable was a good place before the show. The interior is more spacious and a little more colourful since the makeover, but the current owners were already doing things right. Let 's give credit where it 's due.

Yep, it's pretty reliable. Reliable was the subject of one of those restaurant makeover TV shows, but the quality of the fish chips hasn't changed at all. I've been once before the renovation, and once after, and it's as delicious as ever!
