Overall, the food was still delectable but there were a few dishes that weren't up to their previous glory. Casing point was the slightly limp and over-starchy Sauteed Bamboo Shoots and the slightly watery sauced sauteed beef tripe. However, the XLB, Double cooked spicy pork and the Aromatic Crispy Duck were still top notch....by GTA standard.Lastly, for some unknown but most welcome reason, quantity of the peanut/sesame sauce for the Spicy Dan Dan Noodles was overly excessive and smothered the noodles. So much so, there was enough sauce left to take home for use in making a fresh bowl of Dan Dan Soba for my upcoming lunch/dinner tomorrow! Cool!Still one of the best place in the GTA for an enjoyable, authentic Shanghainese meal
Very big plate. Less food. Fancy presentation. Unfortunately, we are coming for filling the stomach, not for watching. Canned bamboo mixed in the soup. Over priced burnt sweeten eel. For sure, not real Shanghai food. No credit card allowed.
This must be one of the best, if not THE BEST Shanghainese restaurant in town. Offering traditional, authentic and delicious Shanghainese fare at a very reasonable price. Reservation at this popular destination, especially on the weekend, is a must.Rarely faulty, ordering from the huge and varied menu ( with colored pictorial illustration ), can both be easy and difficult. Easy, because one can safely order almost any dish on the menu with almost guaranteed satisfactory result. Difficult, because fine choices are so many but stomach room is limited! Both cold tapas size appetizers and cooked main entree dishes excel...not to mention their top notch noodles and dumpling products. A definite Scarborough gem!
This restaurant has limited tables; surprised by the variety of choices. The portion of their dishes are relatively smaller than average. Friendly and attentive servers, they know their menu. It's a good spot to have casual meal and explore different dishes with a group of friends.
This is my go to place for the Chinese steam soup bun. I have tried a few different steam soup bun (xiao long bao) in the scarborough and Markham area and found the ones they server at sika deer has the most soup in them. Just can't get enough of those tasty bites of joys. But caution, the buns are extremely hot. so don't try to eat it in one bite.
