Luigi, the owner, is nice and friendly. He suggested grilled gamberoni. Exceptional !! Right in front of the Castello, relaxed and quiet restaurant. Loved it !!
Honestly, we went in because there was nothing else open in the area for late lunch (3pm . I didn 't think much of it at first just a small touristy looking restaurant close to the oceanfront. I was pleasantly surprised: this place turned out to be so much more than that. There was no printed menu, just a chalkboard on the wall announcing today 's dishes. I asked the waiter for something vegetarian , which I am aware is always an awkward thing to do in a small, southern Italian town restaurant, but whatever, I took the risk, I was half starved and not in the mood to deal with food I wouldn 't be able to eat. He looked at me for about 2 seconds, a bit dumbfounded but then quickly improvised, I can make you some orechiette with arugula and tomato? excellent ,I replied, I can go with that. Well, long story short, this was the single best and most simple pasta dish I 've had in my life. I could taste the sweet/acid pieces of fresh cut tomato, the tangy and unmistakable arugula, the (probably local olive oil, the fresh pasta, a few drops of lemon and salt and pepper, topped with some grated grana padano (or was it parmesan? all of it perfectly and expertly combined to create this life changing pasta dish. I was floored. How could all of these seemingly simple ingredients create this completely awe inspiring taste? Why was my mind exploding? I 've eaten my share of italian food yet never had I had a pasta dish that was so fresh and so mind and physically fulfilling as this one. My husband ordered pasta with frutti di mare and a plate of octopus. He said those where fresh and delicious as well. Another fun fact about this place is that its staff seemed to be comprised of only one man. Our waiter was also the cook. Kudos for this successful one man show he was running. As for the bill, you can 't put a price tag on a dish that makes you re think FOOD, but we were again pleasantly surprised: not more than 25 euros for both of us. It goes without saying that you should go eat here if you ever find yourself in Trani.
