Although we don't live too far, when we walked in it felt very much like a locals spot like when you go into a place and everyone knows everyone and you’re the odd ball out being looked at entering. Can’t explain it, but that’s the feeling. The set up is you order from a register at the front and get a number. There are tables to choose from to sit at. Some of which, you are sitting with other guests that aren't part of your party. There's an area to get coffee and fountain drinks off to the right side. I ordered an omelette with ham, cheddar, and jalapeños. I got the sourdough bread dry and the breakfast potatoes. My husband got the Greek omelette, wheat toast dry, and he also got the breakfast potatoes. My omelette wasn't fully cooked inside which was interesting, because it was a long, skinny omelette. I couldn't eat more than one bite. I also couldn't taste the cheddar. The jalapeños were on and poppin' though! My toast was good and the potatoes were crunchy at the time and tasty. I ended up taking mine home to cook it more and add cheese. The potatoes did not age well over the few hours. They were not longer crunchy on the outside. More like mush. My husband said his was fine, but the oddest thing was the olive part of the omelette was literally whole olives. I have never seen that before. He didn't end up eating them. Nice staff.
Easily my favorite local small eatery in the Carolinas. If you can find it and it 's open, it 's worth it every time. The staff is friendly and very helpful, but for those of us with an independent streak there 's a coffee and water counter where you can get your own refills, a feature I appreciate beyond words. I have yet to try every dish on offer, because every dish I HAVE tried has been so good I 've gotten it again the very next time. These include the shrimp and grits, the chicken and waffles, the shrimp and sausage omelette, the biscuit and gravy, and the tomato pie, among others. All of those items are top notch, you can 't go wrong whatever you choose. The prices are more than fair for the quality of the food you 're going to receive. The place gets a little busy at time, as such excellent places tend to do, but the interior design is very efficient, and I 've never had a problem finding a place to sit. If you 're searching for that spot, you 've found it. It 's the Hungry Drover. Try it at least once, and you 're likely to become a regular. See you there!
If you’re looking for good wholesome basic food for lunch this is the place. Staff are sincere and helpful and the food is good tasting and plenty of it. As an indicator the place is well attended by locals and we all know where they go good food at a reasonable price follows.
Very delicious. My first time. Visiting from Florida.
Eat here regularly. Great home cooking and near my home on TR.
