House keeping did not come for two days in a row and we got back late one night and the sloppy joes bar was so busy we were told that we had ti park across the street. I feel that the hotel guests should be able to park in the hotel parking lot and the bar guests should park across the street at the bar parking across the street.
After some issues with our reservation and the front desk confusion, our stay was fine. I'd say some more fixes might be in store with the rooms based on our room, but overall, it was enjoyable and worth our money spent. Location is great. Plenty of places to eat and drink nearby.
First visit here in a while. The location is great, the beach is fabulous. Its an old hotel, but adequate. Not great, but it is at a matching price rate. BUT,1. They charge a resort fee and it is NOT included in their published rates double check. We prepaid the room and then got a big $80 surprise upon check in. The manager, Clyde, was set on that it is the customers job to haggle with the reservation site over the issue and he was not nice about it. So if you like having to argue with the front desk, call the 800 number and going thru their voicemail, to complain about the dispute sure, stay here. Other hotels have just taken care of these kinds of issues, not made the vacationer manage it. Our reservation company gave us a credit but it was not our job to do that. So, meh.2. Lets talk about resort fees . Here it 's $40 a night for 2 tiny kind of dirty pools with no life guards. And there are some bikes. So, meh. 3. Another tacky move is the envelope for cleaning tips. We are happy to tip, but the envelope is pretty opportunistic. Just pay your people. Not impressed. 4. The place is not sprinklered but they do provide fireblankets under the kitchenette sink. So in case of fire, grab the blanket and hope it protects one of you. 5. Also Clyde, you did NOT give the best rate. (unlesss you mean best rate you can extract) as your position was the resort fee was not included we didnt get that. Your answer was you paid it, you 're not getting it back . And your idea of customer service is threat of bad reviews are extortion so not sure customer service is your calling. 6. Oh, and there were 3 baby lizards in the room. One in the bathroom, one in the kitchen and one in the sleeping area.So. 5 stars for the location and minus 1 star for the age of the property minus 2 stars for management, minus 1 star for Clyde, plus 1 star for the lizards.
We 've been coming to the Bilmar since 1987 and it 's a shame that this will be our final visit.Of course nowhere will stay the same in all that time, but we were so disappointed with how much it has changed. The on site restaurant used to be amazing, the food was incredible and the service was happy and friendly. The seaside bar was great, serving food and drink all day, now it doesn 't open until 4pm and was closed due to private functions for most of our stay. The hotel seems to have a weird split, the side with Waves has a nicer chilled vibe, and would be great had the bar been open enough to enjoy it. And then the tower side with Sloppy Joe’s is clearly aimed at a louder more abrasive audience.A heads up on this divide would have been nice before we booked. The street noise is ridiculous, I 'm not sure what can be done about it, but the bin men waking you up at 7am 3 times a week is not what you expect on a relaxing holiday.Concerns were raised at reception a couple of times, but we 're met with a what do you want me to do about it? attitude. The price we paid for 5 rooms was bordering on extortion for the service we received. We were told we had an hours free kayaking and paddle boarding every day per room, which we never got to experience because it was too windy okay fair enough) then it was too shallow .... as I said we 've been coming here since 1987, you 've always been able to walk out for ages into the sea, it 's a shallow area. So why offer a service that nobody can use... the free umbrellas were never available either, forcing you to pay for a a cabana, which were weirdly always available...Poor effort from one of the islands once most well loved resorts. It seems to only cater for locals, and they get a 50% reduction on prices.Next time we 'll be heading the Treasure Island Beach Resort. It 's more expensive but the amenities seem to actually reflect the cost.
