My wife and I stumbled on this chip truck while exploring Brighton and returning to Coburg. We were away for a weekend to attend a wedding. As we were heading home my wife says to me "My best memory of the weekend was the poutine". Hilarious but true. I had even made a point of complimenting the truck owner and he proudly told me he used real cheese curds from the local Empire dairy and his gravy was made using a special beef stock.
We have visited this roadside chip truck twice now. There are fewer and fewer of them along Highway #2 between Toronto and Belleville, so when we discovered this on our way back from camping in Presquile, we were excited for fries and burgers. Unfortunately, both times the burger was overcooked and quite small compared to the big bun. The jumbo hot dog was undercooked and lacking in juiciness and flavor. The fries were not the hand-cut variety you would expect from a chip truck, and they were disappointing in both texture and taste. Sadly, my husband and I have decided not to stop here again. The final straw was seeing the cook taking a break outside after we had eaten, smoking and picking his nose. Remember, customers are always watching!
I'm not sure what to make of this place. It is a beautifully designed restaurant in a great location.
