This is our place when we stay in France. it is sad that no one else actually checks it! we always try to use it while we are here because we like to support this business in the village. patricia and olivier. guide them a friendly bar with good lunches, which especially to local workers, but also from a good number of other people in the know. at this opportunity we had a bouche a la pure to start, which was very tasty, followed by a steak that boiled over the open fire in the bar, accompanied by chips. fromage was a piece of camembert and dessert was a very beautiful Rhubarb tea. all with a very passable house red plus water and followed by coffee. all not bad for the forest amount of 11.30€, and that's nice because we can go home!
It is a shame that I am the only TripAdvisor reviewer who visits eating places in this part of rural france! I have reviewed la maison of fees during our previous visit to France this year. this time we had the opportunity to take some friends with us. one of them is a very fussy eater, so we have asked ourselves how they would not get along with that menu, eat what they get ethos. we don't have to worry. we were served with a very tasty hot starter of lardons and small chicken pieces in an icy, creamy sauce. it was delicious! then followed the confit duck with cut fried potatoes, again, very tasty. then the usual piece of camembert followed by a selection of desserts. around 11€ per person to brot, wein or apple wine and water, and coffee, I think they find it difficult to beat this for good.
Tressé is a small village (probably no more than 2 dozen houses in the actual village) that has the advantage of having, in addition to the obligatory church and Mairie, its own bar. Patricia and Olivier have owned it for about 19 years now and...made it into a very successful little business. We always feel that in France and in Spain, if you want good value meals, look to see where the workmen eat. And in Tressé weekday lunchtimes you will find a good number of workmen’s vans parked up in the centre, while they lunch at La Maison des Fées. Although the bar is sometimes open for evening meals, without a doubt, it is lunchtimes that are popular, and not only with workmen but locals and others “in the know”. For 11€ you will get a starter, a main course, a small portion of cheese, a dessert, wine or cider, water and a small coffee. There is no menu. There may sometimes be a choice of main courses but, in the main, you eat whatever is being prepared that day. And very nice it is too, with much of the cooking of the main course being cuisine traditionelle au feu du bois, meaning that it is cooked over an open wood fire in the bar. On our most recent visit we had a starter of a nicely dressed small salad of lardons, for main we had pork chops with potatoes, we had our cheese and dessert, all washed down with vin rouge and water and finished with a cafe solo. Everything was very tasty and we think very good value. The added bonus for us is that we can walk home afterwards!
