It was opened in 1865 in the same place where it is still standing, next to the Grand Canal, a few steps from the Church of St. Anthony and the Temple of St. The coffee keeps the furniture in the vienese style, typical of many other cafes in the city, such as Tommaseo. Prices are not abbordabilissimi, but it is worth staying here for a breath "of the typical Austro-Hungarian atmosphere that still permeates the city. In the summer, numerous tables were specified to spend time watching the world pass through Via Dante, one of the most popular streets in Trieste.
Coffee bar Stella Polare is a well-known historical place where citizens have their meeting place. An exceptionally beautiful and pleasant place to hang out and talk. The birth of Caffè Stella Polare dates back to 1865. The distinctive Viennese taste, with its classic decorations of stucco and mirrors, characterized by a place that is mainly visited by traders of German origin and by many writers and artists both from Trieste and from abroad. The visitors were Umberto Saba, his daughter Linuccia, Guido Voghera, Virgilio Giotti and James Joyce a teacher of this time in the nearby Berlitz School, and much more.... In addition to the traditional bar and cafeteria service, you can relax at lunchtime. For those who want something quiet, there is a comfortable and quiet tea room available. In the interior, in addition to a rich pastry department, a visual or photographic exhibition is built, which hosts another artist every two weeks. A great place to relax and enjoy the rich history. The service is exceptionally good, pleasant and professional.
We went with my girlfriend after a long walk in downtown to relax and have a good coffee. We also tried some of their cakes, all were very delicious. The cappuccino was also really good. Prices are a bit high, but I guess it's okay to know the excellent location.
Nice place, with fine cakes and good coffee. Pleasent staff.
The ruddest waiter I have ever seen. Ignored us in a empty cafe, did not answer questions, and when leaving my daughter dropped a glass on the floor. I apologised and he cussed her in italian. I speak Italian so this are not the words to say at a 4-year old. He than tried to play dumb, when I asker him if he would like to repeat those words. Never have something like that happen to me, and by an older waiter, who I would have tought, has some manners and common sense.
