They have a great selection, great prices, and we got a couple treats from the bakery case which were both really delicious. I got the peanut butter cake and my daughter got an eclair. Also, the employees truly wonderful and caring. Their kindness means so much to me. My 6 year old wanted to walk around downtown to explore and ended up with blisters on the back of her heels from her sneakers. We asked for bandaids, intending to purchase, but the cashier gave me a couple of her own. The other cashier let us use a crate as a chair so I could apply the bandages. They went above and beyond for us, and saved our night. Thank you all so much.
It's a pretty neat place if you've never been to a bodega style story before, but as expected in downtown, Goods tend to cost a bit more than they normally should. I had ordered the lamb burger for lunch today, it was actually quite good. I'll definitely be back to order something else another time
The prices are marked up considerably higher than what you'll see at most grocery stores, because of the higher property taxes in the area. Being located downtown near the Ronstadt Transit Center, they get some of the stupidest customers in town. On many occasions I have spent a lot of time waiting in line, for people who didn't have the money to pay for their groceries. The owner is a friendly guy, but if someone is caught shoplifting, he will grab him and take back his property. I have witnessed many ugly scenes of shoplifters being shook down for stolen merchandise. He has gone outside personally looking for reported thieves. They have a full service deli and the roasted vegetables and pasta salads are very good. So is the fruit salad. However the coleslaw is okay, because it's just the processed stuff like Reser's. The lasagna is delicious and the breakfast burritos are pretty good. They have a soup station offering three different types daily. They are super hot, healthy and delicious, like something your mom could have made. The fresh hot coffee is of very high quality and costs about the same as the convenience stores. They have a pretty good produce section, with very large bulk mushrooms and often offer softball sized naval oranges. They have good prices on bagged salads and bottled water. The beer prices are about fifty cents higher than most places, unless you buy a six pack. Some of the cashiers don't know what they're doing and will charge you higher prices, if you don't watch the digital screen. Like a woman tried to charge me the price of portobello mushrooms for white mushrooms or cara cara oranges for naval oranges. Some of the products don't have the prices on the shelves. Johnny's might cost a little more, but it could save some time, as opposed to traveling two miles away to another store for a small order.
The setup of of the entire shop is really cool. It is comfortable and easy to navigate. All of the workers were nice and helpful. Great food at the deli too.
I love funky small grocery stores and this one ticks all the boxes. It's close to everything, it has a neighborhood convenience store vibe but with a great selection of products. The sourdough bread is great. I come here all the time
