Unfortunately that meant there was a lot of noise and their sneeze guard/barrier is very high with no gaps so it was practically impossible to talk to the staff behind it in order to make my selections. Being short in stature i was forced to almost yell in the direction of the ceiling. The number of choices can be daunting for a first time diner. It is very difficult to actually see all of your options (not on the sign, like the actual product) and i nearly missed out on a lot of their choices if it werent for the signage above and seeing from the side of the glass once i got to the end of the line. Watching other customers i feel that taller people have none of these issues. That being said, they easily tower over the sneeze guard so it's pointless? As for the food, it is decent stuff. Poke needs vibrant colors to make it pop and i feel like if i didnt see all of their options last minute i would have ended up with almost garish looking food!
Was excited to try this place. However this is set up to pick your own fish and sauce which is mixed together on the spot. Here, the fish doesn't have time to soak up the sauce which just ends up all on the rice and leaving the fish tasting very plain (the fish in the picture looks bare). This is a great idea but very far from what poke really is. The fish usually is left to marinate before serving allowing the fish to hold the flavor of the sauce. On a positive note, the fish was very fresh.
It was fine and the prices were reasonable, but the Ahi tuna tasted terrible and the fish portions were tiny compared to the other Poke places in town. The restaurant smelled pretty bad and the fountain soda tasted off. I also felt that the ambient noise was high, there were no other guests when I arrived but I still had to shout for the server to hear me. The rice was good however, I appreciated the sauce station and the server was very nice. It was also perfectly accessible for my walker. All around not the worst poke, but I dont think I would recommend it either.
If you've had good poke before, you might understand my rating. I'm generally not a harsh reviewer, but this wasn't so great an experience. I think this place has a ways to go... The positives: you get a good portion size, if you (can) eat everything they have available, and the newly renovated space was nice. The woman at the register was sweet, as opposed to the tall dude who didn't seem to care much (see negatives). The negatives: The rice was a bit old and dry, the selection of toppings was limited, and the quality not too great. To top it off, the tall male server was oddly obstinate about allowing extra cucumbers instead of seaweed salad (which my dad doesn't like), or extra seaweed salad instead of imitation crab meat (which my mom can't eat because it has wheat in it). Instead, they paid $11 each for partially empty plates. See pictures. Sadly, I will not return here. There is another Poke place that just opened up on west university, so maybe that one will be a hit!
The experience was ingenious, delicious, and fresh, with complete customization options. The staff was very hygienic, constantly washing their hands and using appropriate technology while changing gloves. You can either place your order or enjoy your meal in a cozy area covered by a UoA.
