Being a party of three, two gentlemen gave up the table of four for us unasked. I had the Montréal smoked meat and poutine while by wife tried the grilled chicken. We were served water in a chilled bottle. Wide variety to choose from but a definite French flavour with available croque sandwiches and even tourtière. It was packed when we left (1pm on Sunday). If hungry in the area, stop in!
My husband had the Montreal Smoked Meat Poutine last summer and he has been wanting me to try it ever since. We finally made it there for a dinner date Saturday and wow, what a disappointment. We shared onion rings, chicken fingers and poutine between us and the best part was my bottle of root beer. Either the oil wasn't hot enough or it was very old, because all we tasted was grease. Only one of the pieces of chicken wasn't grossly overcooked, the fries were very soggy, the cheese wasn't even warm, let alone melted from the lukewarm gravy, and the onion rings were also overdone. I'm guessing the person doing the cooking was different from last summer because the flavor would have been good without all of the oil saturation. One exception was the plum sauce, because I'm sure I have the same stuff at home in a bottle of generic plum sauce from the grocery store. We spent $40 on two cases of indigestion and three plates of half-eaten food. Not planning to return, ever.
The food here is average or just above average and we would eat here again. The Meat pies are probably their best food in my opinion. A varied menu that offers something. For everyone. Service is good.
Right on main street in Black Diamond Alberta. A destination for this little town. Great fresh ingredients and excellent prices give you a terrific experience. You will not be disappointed.
The owner/cook is from Quebec. do I need to say more than that about poutine? Not the disgusting stuff you get with shredded cheese in most restaurant in Alberta. no real authentic poutine just like in Quebec! He also have à Montreal smoked meat sandwich and Creton and tourtière! give it a try!
