We (my wife and our four kids) dined here while staying at the adjoined Stora Hotellet (which is amazing, by the way). Despite a staff of one bartender, one waitress and two kitchen staff to serve over a dozen seated tables (several of 4+ including ours) the food and experience was amazing. Everyone was working hard and fast to take care of the patrons. The food was fabulous. My wife and kids are all gluten free (celiacs, so they have to be precise) or gluttenfritt as we've learned in Swedish and the kitchen executed flawlessly, adjusting dishes to accommodate and coming up with amazing gluten free bread to boot. Each course was delicious. We dined on a Sunday which is their pre fix night. This week it was Italian. I don't like Italian. I don't like pasta. But after THIS maybe I should change my mind. The pasta was great! My wife doesn't like lamb chops. Well... She loved the ones they served! The only complaint: my four year old about fell asleep before the meal was over. That's probably not the restaurant's fault blame the parents that put her through 9 hours of driving to get to Umea today! If you're in the area visiting or living here I'd recommend going to Gothards Krog. I do hope the owners staff the restaurant better, though, because the folks here could have used an extra hand. Despite that, they shined, as did the cuisine.
Three of us from United States in town this week for business. We looked for classic Swedish restaurant. Gotthards hit the spot, so to say. Great starters/small plates menu, tasty mains, and desserts. Food for the meat eater or vegetarian pallet. Good wine, beer, and spirits selection. Great service from staff. Tack sa mycket Fredrik!
I've been here twice for drinks and twice for lunch. It's a steady 3.5. However I do notice the charming hipster bartenders take more care with making drinks than the way the food is often soaked in olive oil. Props for that. Food is flavorful, at times heavy, but not stellar food. However if you find yourself hungry for Swedish cuisine in Umea there's really only this place and Rex that makes acceptable food. Don't bother skimping on spending 85kr on a lurid doner. Hot Lunch time meals are about 115kr and the salad, bread and coffee is self-serve. One time I got a vegetarian risotto that tasted like Mac and cheese and another time I got a herb roasted pumpkin dish with other root vegetables that was quite savory and delicious. So it's a kind of inconsistent place, though I haven't had any bar food yet. Oh yeah I see elk is on the menu.
I came here for fika with my friend. The food was delicious but the staff was not very attentive and service was a bit slow.
Having never eaten here I can only judge the various ales, cocktails and drinks one frequently partake of in this place. Selection isn't huge but pure quality. Whatever's on tap is usually what I get. Fresh, crisp what more can you ask for? Staff is friendly and up for a good chat if one fancies :
