Visited this hutte twice the first time walking from Bad Gastein along the excellent Kaiser Wilhelmina promenade, the second time taking the 555 bus from Bad Hofgastein to Gruner Baum. The valley is a great place for walking and there was plenty of snow although...the path is cleared. The hutte has a large selection of strudels as well as soups etc. Service was very good and it is popular as several tables were reserved. We walkd beyond Himmelwand but the next hutte at Prossau is much further than some of the signs indicate.
During our 6 day visit to the Hoteldorf Grüner Baum hotel, we went to this place 3 times. The walk to this Hutte is a beautiful 20 min path next to a river from the hotel. This little Hutte has a limited variety of local...dishes and is served by an elderly couple who are very friendly, please dismiss the previous review saying that they scare the clientele and are like dictators, this is so far from the truth!!! We actually got there one day after 6pm and we didn't know that they were not open and instead of sending us away (many places in Austria would have done that) they explained their opening times, and they served us! Please be patient when there, they are often very busy and the elderly couple can be a bit slow, however they run this place beautiful and the snacks and cakes are absolutely delicious. I recommend eating the Bauerkrapfen with Preiselbeeren.
Really delicious eating wild mushrooms, a cheese dumpling thing and some meats, plus amazing strudel (Curd cheese and black stream, the owners were beautiful and love making the food too. hard to describe, but just beautiful. a hidden gem. if they are tired, they can get the 555 largest part of the way there.
This remote location is only accessible to walk, but the beautiful walk of bad gastein along the Kaiser Wilhelm promenade or from the bus stop greener baum is worth it. the jausenteller is a large washboard. the top whirlpool with a kind of...Construction cheese and the poppy scabble with poppy with poppy are the best served with vanilla sauce! the children also loved the various fillings. the young couples who led the place were very friendly and friendly, especially for our four restless grandchildren. there is a small playground and they have flush toilets - not always for granted at this type of location.
