On a Wednesday night, tired of eating at home or fast food joints, we decided to indulge in some Korean BBQ. Jung Sung caught our eye for its fine dining reputation in Korean cuisine. Upon arrival, we noticed the dark and minimalist decor, giving the venue a sleek but somewhat lacking character. The staff were polite, though it seemed like they were still getting the hang of things in this relatively new establishment. They provided a detailed explanation of each course, which we appreciated. We opted for the 5 course menu, but there is also a 6 course option available. We highly recommend going for the 6 course if you can, as every dish was meticulously prepared and delicious. We were even able to swap a dessert for an additional course. Our meal included red snapper, Morton bay bug prepared two ways, Berkshire pork, and Wagyu beef. The Morton bay bug Bibimbap was a standout dish, showcasing the unique flavors of Korean cuisine. To accompany our meal, we enjoyed some excellent gin martinis. Although the bar selection was not extensive, it was clear that they knew how to craft a good cocktail. Overall, Jung Sung provides a fantastic dining experience, perfect for a midweek date night.
The restaurant was okay, but not exceptional. The Bi Bim Bob dish I ordered had shredded beef, which isn't my favorite. The owner was courteous and the food was served promptly. I tried pickled eggs for the first time and found them surprisingly good. I may consider returning in the future, but it will depend on my mood.
I have only been to this restaurant twice, and both times I was very satisfied with the food. I am surprised that I am the first one to leave a review. The owners are kind and passionate about what they do. The food is excellent, especially their Korean hotpot, which is a must-have for me and my friends. It can serve up to 4 people and is priced at under $30. Their welcome dishes are also fantastic, and I would say they are among the top 3 Korean restaurants in Philly. Another great thing about the restaurant is that it is easy to find street parking - I only had to pay a dollar to park for an hour. Since not many people go there, you can expect great service. Overall, it is definitely worth a visit!
