Stayed three nights in one of the new rooms. Really nice, clean and comfortable. The staff we're all very nice and accommodating. Good location. Highly recommend.
When I arrived in Valdez last August, I was shocked to find the Restaurant missing. We spent countless hours there, indulging ourselves every year during the Silver Salmon run. Unfortunately, that tradition was shattered this past August. The Totem Benedict had always been a favorite of mine—a delightful combination of a biscuit, bacon, and a perfectly poached egg with a bright, golden yolk that oozed out as you cut into it. It was generously smothered in a savory sausage gravy filled with delicious chunks of sausage. And as if that weren't enough decadence on one plate, it was paired with (heavy breathing) home fries. They were golden brown and caramelized, tempting me to grab them with my hands and devour them. But of course, one must maintain decorum, right? I fondly remember one time when I was fishing from the ferry dock and was on a roll—I managed to catch four silvers, one right after the other. Despite some curious glances from others, I held my ground. Blake took it upon himself to go to the Totem and get a Benedict to go. I don't think I've ever been happier than when I sat there, watching my bobber in the water while enjoying my Totem Benedict. Such sweet memories! Their skillets were amazing as well, providing the perfect fuel for a long day of fishing. This is also where I first tried apple butter on toast, which was simply delicious. And don't even get me started on their "Death by Chocolate" cake—it was just as decadent as it sounds. Now, I’m left wondering how I will cope without the Totem Restaurant. No other place in town even comes close. I will always be a devoted fan.
We ate here on my first night after moving to Valdez. The next month it had a fire and has been closed ever since. Pretty sad about that, but word on the street is that they're building a new hotel... WITH AN INDOOR POOL! I hope they bring the restaurant back too, we need all the options we can get here in Valdez.
Really really nice hotel, it's a little expensive but when you're in Alaska during tourist season i guess that's expected. We loved it, we got a family suite and it was nice, comfortable and pleasant. It was about $270 for one night, with 2 rooms and a living room but extremely clean, hot water and very good service
