54th Ave Cafe Restaurant - Vancouver

This is a place where you could grab a quick fix of Chinese food. They also have western style Chinese dishes. The best dish here in my opinion is the Lobster Fried Rice, the price has recently increased so I don't order that anymore. The lobster is fresh from the tank and not canned. The fried cod with garlic and hot pepper is also a good dish. The rest of the food in my opinion is one level higher than the quality of chinese food in a food court at a mall.(if that makes any sense???

Standard Chinese café fare, good selection, most people's favorite Chinese dishes are on the menu. Prices are acceptable. Service is OK but slow at times. Pretty good if you have 2 to 4 people with you and need a place for decent lunch/dinner. Their takeout is also good but you may have to wait a while.

Grandpa wanted to go out for Sunday dinner. He saw a special in the newspaper: $105 for 5 Dishes, rice, soup and tapioca dessert. We got hainam chicken, honey garlic spare ribs, char siu and jelly fish (extra $2), spicy green beans with minced pork, beef steak stir fry (extra $2). Lots of food for 4 people. Took a bunch of leftovers home! Our tea glasses were never empty!

Ive been going to 54 for quite a few years. Ive never had a bad meal. The staff are friendly. The restaurant is clean and newly renovated. I enjoyed the sole and snow peas, honey garlic ribs, egg tofu with bok choy and chicken with rice cakes last night. With 4 dishes it included steamed rice, soup, and Hainanese chicken. The restaurant is owned by a couple who care about their customers and their business.

Poor food and service. Although the Cafe has been renovated but food quality remains terrible compared to similar restaurants in the vicinity like Happy Day Cafe, Mui Yuen, Honolulu etc which are far superior than 54th Ave Cafe. No wonder the Cafe is sparsely patronized for most of the time.
