We were on Commercial Drive and needed a fix of Java. Here is this little place, owner run, with just what we needed. It doesn’t look like much from the outside or on the inside. Slightly run down and dated. And just the sort of...place one would visit if living in the neighbourhood. Has that casual, don’t get too excited atmosphere. Probably full of locals during international soccer events. My wife had the cheesecake with figs and I the apple pie, plus drinks. We noted that ice cream and some sorbets are available. Some are made by the owners, and we will have to check them out on a future visit to Commercial Drive. There are some breakfast items and pizzas available. There is a bit of confusion about the name in our minds. It says Toscanini on one of the outside windows but Abruzzo higher up on the building.
This place truly shows what Canada is and you'll know what I mean when you go there. This is a little family run Italian café. We went there to watch the Italy vs Germany Eurocup game. We were glad to have gone a bit early...as we got three of the last few seats left. We started with their cappuccinos, which were delicious. We then tried their Mediterranean pizza. The slices were huge of a Large for and reasonably prized. They were very good, and they made the dough just the way my husband loves it (not the hard thin crust), and it tasted just like how we had them in Italy last summer. They were freshly made, of course. The San Pellegrino drinks were a bit pricey at a can, but in a hot weather, they were refreshing. Their gelatos (limoncello and hazelnut) and passion fruit sorbetto were on point. The crowd was amazing as well. The only problem was that they had only restroom for the whole place, which would probably suffice on a regular day, but on a Eurocup day, there was a line during the first intermission. However, the line was reasonable the rest of the afternoon. We had a great time on our first visit and will be going again.
I come here alot because it is good to keep up with the English Premier League football especially the Aston Villa games. The hot chocolate here is very good.
Exceptional Coffee! Very crowded and had to wait longer than I would have liked to get coffee and a sweet but worth the wait.
