Off the Tracks Espresso Bar and Bistro is tucked away on Granville Island's cozy, car-free, nook Railspur Alley. On the exterior, there is a nice little patio. On the inside, it is a big bright open space with a few small tables and counter seating and a large communal table in the middle.
Agro Cafe. Walking into the open, wood-frame interior gives you a real nice, open feeling. I ordered an americano, it was almost too hot for an afternoon coffee but since this was a new cafe I had to give their americano a try. It was going to be a bit of a wait (busy place, four-shot machine) so we grabbed a seat on the patio and enjoyed the busker across the lane.
Agro Cafe always has good coffee, and to go with it, there's always something new on the menu board. Soup and sandwiches as well as creative menu items. One of my favourites is a Bear Claw Biscuit: covered in honey and topped with toasted slivered almonds. Soup and sandwich pairs are always tempting and a good price. Lots on the menu. Cozy place to meet or take a break from exploring Granville Island.
The sandwich and salad combo is an amazing deal. Good food. The treats might not be so great--my companion found the lemon bar far too sweet.
Granville Island can get downright frenetic on sunny days and/ or in summer and this little place is the perfect way to escape the crowds. The prices are very reasonable considering its location on an island which is one of Vancouver's premier attractions. For example their all day breakfast specialties which are very unique are 6.95 and 7.95! There is a lot of strong, bitter coffee served on the W. coast but Agro's is soooo smooth...OMG it was good. Nice patio for people watching...while we were there a Dad went by with a stroller and trailing 4 Afghan hounds of different sizes. And don't miss the shops next door on Railspur Alley. The painted silks next door were beautiful.
