Broyé Cafe Bakery (the Owner Of Baker And Table)

Baker and Table Cafe has been on my radar ever since it opened two years ago. It’s no secret that the boyfriend and I love Japanese food and culture. Despite going to Tokyo only 3 months ago, we miss Japan a lot and can’t wait to go back! To get our Japanese grocery fix, we go to Fujiya often. On one of our grocery trips, I noticed Fujiya carried some mochi melonpan from Baker and Table (weekends only)! I took my chance and bought all 4 buns that they offered.

I visited the shop on a weekday, and the atmosphere was very relaxed. The staff were helpful in introducing the products to visitors and new customers, and they expressed their gratitude for repeat visits. I really love this shop. Keep up the good work! One suggestion for consideration: please stop using paper and plastic cups and utensils for dine-in customers.

After enjoying a delicious serving of Butter Chicken Poutine at Roots Cafe, my friend and I decided to try a relatively new entrant to Fraser street, Baker Table Cafe. This little cafe seems almost out of place in an area populated with older style family businesses…maybe forecasting the trend of things to come. They do have some interesting dessert offerings though!

This is the place in the lower mainland to get 'melonpan ': a Japanese lightly sweet bun with a thin cookie-like crust.<br/ <br/ The texture of the buns are crisp, light and not too sweet. <br/ <br/ The atmosphere of the place is “welcoming” with plenty of tables and work space.<br/ <br/ We found it quite expensive compared to the portions that we get.

After our introduction to melonpans during our trip to Japan last year, I’ve been seriously craving these crunchy-topped buns. Recently, I heard that a place on Fraser Street had started selling these in Vancouver and we wound up stopping by after a Lobster Sticky Rice dinner at nearby Ho Yuen Kee.
