The portion is big and the food overall is good. I only wish the flavour is bit stronger but overall it tastes good. The injera is bit more sour than one at Fassil though. The chicken tangine is very tasty, too bad I couldn't eat it all because my friends ordered it. Customer service is friendly. It was very nice of the waitress to give us extra injera. One negative thing is too much heat in the restaurant, I wish they have a fan or air conditioner in there to cool down the space. I like the food at Fassil a tiny more due to bit stronger flavour and better taste injera but I like the scenery here better. The bonus of this restaurant is they give you utensils and proper cloth napkin
Our search for great East African food in Vancouver ended when we found Café D'Afrique. Definitely liked the food here more than I did at Harambe on Commercial Drive (although that one's a good restaurant too)
The service was very good, but it was slightly slow possibly because it was family owned and the chef was also taking care of her children in the restaurant. It was interesting to try the food and it was my first time trying Ethiopian food.
I absolutely adore this place! The spicy chicken stew is absolutely amazing, as well as the veggie combo and beef sambussas. We've also tried their fish and it was delicious. The sour injera pairs perfectly with the stews, creating a heavenly blend of flavors. This is not your typical fast food joint; it's a family-owned restaurant where you may have to wait a bit for your food, but it is definitely worth it. The owners are exceptionally friendly too.
Having tried Ethiopian food at numerous restaurants in Toronto over the past 10 years, I found the dishes at this particular place to be decent but not as flavorful as others I have tried. While I have never been to Ethiopia and cannot speak to the authenticity of the flavors, I have had better experiences at other restaurants. However, considering the limited options in town, I may still return here when craving Ethiopian cuisine.
