This place is so tasty, and pretty darn close to real Italian food! I love that they have pasta with pecorino sauce on the menu - took me right back to
So I needed to grab lunch and decided to check this place out since I was in the area.__It's quite small but very sleek and clean.
Went to Campagnola Roma for pizza and found the restaurant to be as hot as a pizza oven. We were going to leave but the staff managed to find us a table outside in the small patio area. The patio area unfortunately looks out onto a not so attractive parking lot which some cars use to go through to get onto Hastings street. A screen would help to improve this.As for the food, our "glorious organic salad" was very good, my wife's pizza , the verdissima which she ordered with anchovies , had a mayo drizzle and pickled anchovies and not salted anchovies, was overall bland. The combinations of flavour didn't work.My pizza, the fiducia, was very tasty but again had a mayo drizzle and for some reason was swimming in oil. My plate was covered in it. Not sure why. Overall the meal was somewhat disappointing. The Barbera wine we chose was good.
We live in Deep Cove on the North Shore and will no longer, when looking for a dish of pasta, be even tempted to visit the local eateries to be served slop by little kiddies. Ten minutes more in the car takes us to CR and our meal the other night says it all.We were served by Ian who is a wine rep by day and has a wealth of knowledge about not only what we were ordering but food in general..... where the organic greens were from, what the salads included, how the house special anise hot sauce for the pizza is made... etc. etc. So refreshing to be in an environment where staff knows and loves what they are doing. My wife and I split an organic salad, the spaghetti pomodoro and a house pizza with whole anchovies... simply a spectacular meal. Its always a toss up for us between CR and Ask for Luigi, the latter a little further to drive and greater uncertainly about getting a table. Such great choices. Our friends have just opened Orto Artisan Pasta in North Vancouver and we're expecting great things but the previously named competition is tough! We'll be back to CR very soon!
