El Guapo - Vancouver

I strongly advise against hosting events at El Guapo. In my experience, they are the worst venue I have ever been to for events. They seemed to purposely under serve our group in order to make us spend more money. Despite having a group of 40 people, we only had 1 dedicated server and 1 shared server. We were forced to walk to the bar to order and were told that our orders would count towards a spending limit for the group, only to be told later that we needed to spend more money. The GM did not seem to have any business sense and only caused confusion. The restaurant was extremely disorganized, with one server even starting a confrontation and accidentally dropping food and wine on one of our guests. The only positive aspect was our dedicated server, who tried her best despite being abandoned by management. The staff was disrespectful and immature. I will never return to this restaurant and will warn my friends to avoid it as well. Save yourself the trouble and choose a different venue for your events.

When I walked in I thought it was really nice and comfortable then the service started. My waitress looked miserable serving us and not just that she did not put a single smile while serving us. In fact she looked disappointed that we were even here. The drinks are overpriced and almost cost more than my tacos, 16 dollars for a margarita is INSANE and my appetizer costed more than my main course and the chips did not taste like chips.

Went to this Yaletown restaurant for Happy Hour on a sunny Friday afternoon. The place had a nice outdoor patio but it was full so we sat inside. Unfortunately, without AC, inside was a bit warm. We ordered drinks and food from the Happy Hour menu but the drink choices were limited. Seeing nothing I liked, I tried the Hey Y'all for $4.50 which I don't recommend as it just tasted like sweetened iced tea. But the food was better. We ordered Sweet Potato Tacos and the Guacamole. Portions were not big but ok for Happy Hour.Service was efficient but we were told an hour and a half later that we needed to leave as our table was reserved for dinner. To make us feel better, we were each offered a free shot of tequila or Jamieson when we got our checks! Not a bad deal. But not sure I would return for HH again (especially on a hot day) but this was a lively place to get together with friends on a Friday afternoon.

El Guapo is an excellent place to grab drinks with a large or small party of people. It's an awesome place to go pre dinner, or after an event for a handful of drinks. On weekend evenings, it can really turn up and provide a high energy, loud, and bar type experience. I was disappointed with the dinner experience, however.The other day I actually went for food, and I was surprised it was so bland! For all the great energy El Guapo has, it was disappointing to see none of that energy translated to the food! We ordered the shrimp tacos, two gordito style tacos, and four al pastor tacos. It was a below average feed. No spice or flavor considering it is Mexican food after all! Food needed a lot more fun injected into it.Service was great, our waitress was super nice and helpful. Suggested a few things to try. I'll definitely be back to El Guapo but it will probably only be for drinks only and a high energy environment.

Delicious. Arrived by chance after walking around and was very impressed. Portions were smaller than we are used to, but quality makes up for it. Really cool atmosphere, wonderful staff. Our group of 12 had a great meal and experience. If I could make one recommendation it would be to have chips and salsa available for the tables. With smaller portions, the chips and salsa would help.
