The wine list is very small, nothing special but again one doesn't expect it to be different. The food was good - beef Wellington, lamb chops and pork chop - all tasty and well done. There was live jazz music which was actually very good.
The food was perfect. The pasta fresh, and the seafood not overcooked. And, a lovely jazz trio that blended in. We loved it. Karyn was an attentive waitress from Limerick.I wish the Tripadvisor website was more intuitive for posting a review. You should work on this.
Only blocks from our home, my wife & I finally had a chance to visit Enigma, and were very pleased that we did. It wasn't busy when we arrived for supper on a Friday evening. We were quickly seated. Our waiter quickly brought us a plate of bread of butter, and menus. We weren't rushed, but our attentive server noticed when we seemed ready to order. Overall service was excellent.I took advantage of the Friday evening pint of beer special, while my wife ordered red wine. Very reasonably priced drinks. We started with humungous house salads. Our waiter did suggest that could share, but we're big veggie eaters and the sizes were perfect. Lots of pumpkin seeds & dried cranberries were added to the pile of greenery & cherry tomato halves, along with a our different but very tasty house dressings on each.My wife had a yummy Guinness Beef stew with lots of tender meat, steamed veggies, and mashed potatoes. I had the daily special grilled lamb chops. Although our waiter did not ask how done I wanted them, the three tender chops came perfectly medium as I would have ordered. The chops had a very nice smoky flavour, and had just the right amount of tasty, tangy house BBQ glaze. The meal came with the same steamed veggies as the stew, but steamed potato chunks instead of mashed. Both meals were very reasonably priced and delicious.
For years Enigma has been one of my favourite restaurants. Sadly, with the change of ownership, it is not the same.At a recent dinner there I found my meal more than disappointing. The cooked vegetables were overcooked. The plate was laden with shavings of carrot and other cold vegetables. The wonderful server, Jon, was not on duty that evening. I felt that our server took a patronizing tone with my young Australian hosts. They were too polite to tell him off, and I didn't want to spoil their treat by lecturing the service staff. Too bad, after so many years I will have to find another restaurant for relaxed easy dining. If anyone has recommendations I'd be glad to hear them.
We have dined here over the years and appreciated the food and good service of the previous owners. With new ownership, things continue to go well as testified by recent lunch there. Staff friendly and work hard to get things right. Food tasty and wide range of continental cuisine. Ask for table near windows as brighter. Good luck and enjoy!
