Flower and Horse in Spring - Vancouver

I enjoy my noodles. The concept behind this restaurant is interesting following a story how a wife would bring a meal to her husband crossing over a bridge each day but wanted to make sure it was fresh and hot basically. So you pick a kind of protein to go with rice noodles and you get all these tiny side dishes which you self add to your soup. If it is your first time they will guide you if something should be added in a certain order first. Mid range in pricing but fairly good and I felt full. The service was a very good as there were very few tables coming in at their last hour.

Flower and Horse in Spring specializes in "Crossing the Bridge Rice Noodles", a Yunnan specialty. It is similar to a hotpot. The broth is boiling hot. It is a light broth, almost a neutral palette for the accompanying dishes. It is more subtle than the ubiquitous ramen you'll find nearby.You order your protein - generally a bit of beef or seafood. It comes along with a dozen smaller accompaniments - vegetables, tofu and a quail's egg. Everything gets stirred in to cook.The restaurant also has a small selection of the Yunnan specialties and appetizer size sides.Service is excellent. For novices like us they were happy to spend time explaining the meal and coaching us on how to prepare it. The decor has been updated from the former incarnation as a Japanese noodle house. The walls are mustard yellow and there are Yunnanese crafts displayed along the walls. Definitely worth a try. Nice to have more variety to choose from in the neighbourhood.

Over hyped restaurant, food is just average and expensive , will not come

We stayed near area and decided to give this place a try. They look busy enough even at late hours. Always a good sign. We all ordered the same on menu, beef ? noodles. The first tray they brought out had little dishes that you can select for the beef soup noodles. A good idea ?. This way you can choose what to pick in and actually sample before hand. The soup was hot and overall well made. Prices reasonable

Very authentic Yunnan Rice noodles. Even better than what I had in Shanghai.
