La Piazza Dario - Vancouver

バンクーバー市内でもかなり東寄り、Renfrew（レンフルー）通りとGrandview (グランドビュー)通りが交わるところにあるイタリア文化センター（Italian Culture Centre）にあるイタリア料理店です。店の人によるともう20年以上の歴史をもつ、人気のあるレストランです。内装はたしかに歴史を感じさせてくれます。いろいろと地味な装飾ですが、店内いっぱいにイタリア風の彫刻物などが飾ってあります。もっともこうした彫刻物で質が高いものはあまりみかけられませんでした。われわれは金曜日の夕食をいただきました。かなりこんでいて予約しておいてよかったと思います。サーバーは場所柄おおかたがイタリア系の人で、英語はもちろんイタリア語もオーケーだそうです。メニューは前菜、パスタ、魚あるいは肉で構成されています。イタリア料理とはいえ、ピザはまったく扱っていません。魚、肉料理については毎日1、2点のスペシャルがあるそうです。われわれはカラマリ、アサリのスパゲッティ、ステーキなどをいただき、さらにジェラートなどのデザートをいただきました。ワインは量を飲めなかったので、白のハウス・ワインだけにしました。ワインの選択肢はとくに多くはありませんでしたが、イタリアものを中心にまずまずでした。各料理ともに味よし、量は多くもなく少なくもなくといったところでした。ディナー3人分でチップ込みで180ドルほどでした。全体の量からすると少し高めでしょうね。イタリア文化センターと駐車場を共有しているため、よほどのことがない限り駐車に問題があることはないでしょう。このレストラン専用のコーナーもあります。もちろん無料です。公共交通機関で行くなら、スカイトレインのRenfrew 駅から歩いて4、5分で行けます。

The atmosphere right when you walk in is all Italian.A lovely dining room with plenty of light, greenery and a wonderfully displayed wine selection.In the dining room were both large groups and small ones, we never felt ignored because of the large groups, the service was wonderful.It was a wonder the server could remember all the specials on this evening.The menu was a nice variety of pastas to a variety of seafood.The wine list was quite extensive and as said above, displayed nicely in the dining room.Only a few restaurants serve grilled calamari and this one has been the best we've found. The food is Wonderful.I would certainly recommend for a lovely meal for couples or a large group as they were certainly set up for both.I believe they may have a different menu for large groups.Buon appetito!

Located at the Italian Cultural Centre on Grandview Highway in Vancouver, Dario's is the place to go to for real Italian food and overhearing local Italians speaking their beautiful language. The restaurant is reminiscent of those found in Italy with various pieces of grandiose Italian pottery & statues. Their seafood is particularly good and the pasta "fatto a casa" , made in the house. Everyday there are specials & today was chestnut pasta with morel mushroom sauce or snapper with vegetables & rice. The spaghetti vongole is just like in Italy . We also shared two appies & everything was fresh & delicious. At the same time there is an air of intimacy as many of the servers are Italian speaking while very friendly & knowledgeable about the dishes. Outdoor is seating available in good weather.

We have always just called it Darios, and for some reason, had not gone for over a year. It is next to The Italian Cultural Center, and from our home, about a 20-25 minute drive. It is not in Vancouver's downtown restaurant areas, so a tourist has to be told about it, I guess we got lazy. The staff is wonderful, and the food is authentic and delicious. So many restaurants today have menus that require us to ask the servers to explain how a dish is prepared, but Darios has authentic Italian food like "mamma" cooked. Portions are generous. Decor is lovely. Wine list is excellent and fairly priced.

We were part of a group enjoying the Prime Rib and Mashed Potatoes. Food was good and value oriented. Staff friendly and easygoing. Canoli's for dessert could have been a bit fresher. Overall I was pleasantly surprised as this is located in the Italian Cultural Centre. Good luck and enjoy!
