I did delivery twice. I will likely fall back on this as my go-to for great noodles and Chinese comfort food. This place reminds me of the great noodle houses in the old chinatown in Toronto where I went to University. All noodles are pulled by hand and there is NO MSG in the food. The dumplings are a marvel of soft dough engineering. They can be a tiny bit heavy for the green ones but it is SO NICE to get a real hand made dumpling like you had back in school. The noodles are simply- fantastic. As are all the Shaolin specialties. I did the Buddha's Feast the second time around. Crispy and tasty featherlight not greasy fried 'chow mien' style noodles arrived with veggies and tofu and very green crispy broccoli. The beef noddles are the essence of those flat beef noodles ( not rice noodles mind you) passed through the wok with some onions and broccoli and sprouts that are chewy and perfectly cooked. Add hot sauce if you like. The sauces are old school- Chinese dipping with vinegar and another chili garlic black sauce which packs heat. Order the specialties and the noddles either fried or in soup and you can't go wrong.
We found the food was pricey and really not that flavourful. Really just a meh meal but filled us up. The online ordering was very confusing and they stated they would call to confirm receiving it but they never did. Was across the street from our hotel so convenient but wouldn't go back.
Actual Name is Shao Lin Noodle House at 656 W. Broadway Vancouver. The address is wrong on the tripadvisor website. I went there on a Thurs. eve with two friends and had a most wonderful meal. We had6 dishes for less than $60.00. They bring scissors to cut the noodle dishes. The fried noodles with BBQ pork was great and the pan fried scallops were very tender and tasty. The steamed rice is a combination of a number of rices and has a reddish tinge to it. We have been there a number of times and always make sure to order the Chili Garlic Eggplant with Pork, always a favourite. Some dishes are listed as spicy but they are tolerable and not overly hot-- actually just the right amount of chili. If you want a beer with dinner it is available, but they do not offer wine. This eatery is really worth a try in Vancouver. You won't be disappointed.
There are people I know who like to always eat at the same establishment. It is bewildering to one who likes variety and particularly baffling when the food is mediocre and the ambiance so 1970. You know the energy is soured when the waiter makes you feel you aren't ordering fast enough and you feel bad because you linger over your meal; there isn't a timer on my table, but it feels like it. There is a bonus however, there is free parking stalls at the back of the restaurant.
